Just something simple, like how are you doing today. Then ask if everything is going ok for her. It will kind of let the female know you are wanting to conversate or learn more about her. If she begins to talk, she feels comfortable and has a good vibe about you. If she is short on everything she says, then she is either shy or reserved, maybe she won't feel she can trust you or that she is just having a really crummy day. If she does start talking to you, listen more, then talk, don't just start talking constantly about yourself. Once she opens up, ask her where she's from, what's her occupation, what she does in her spare time, etc. It might seem corny, but it's easier than being more lame and saying something that will make her get up and move or totally ignore you, you know.

Most people ask what someone does for a living to initiate a conversation. You don't always have to be clever until you get to know something about someone, and then you know better what they might find to be witty and clever. Don't use the following: 1)Do I know you from somewhere? 2) Is your name.....Mary, Jane, etc.? 3) What's a nice girl like you doing in a place like this? Just look at a woman, try to understand why she has the look she has, and go from there.

Just be very normal. Normal is good when starting a conversation. "Hi, how are you?", "How about this great weather", "Are you ever busy today (if she's at work)." Then go from there with something normal and intelligent, proceed with funny and interesting, but don't get personal right away.
