I am going to write an article for my school paper about Jewish identity and especially on how certain people think Jewish people "should" look (like most people don't think blacks or asians "look" Jewish) . I have interviewed a couple of people about how they either

a) get asked if they are Jewish but they aren't

b) are Jewish, but when they tell others people say "but you don't "look" Jewish

I'd appreciate any anecdotes or help! thanks! The article is due on Friday.

Jews have lived in the diaspora for 2000 years. They live in Europe, China, Asia, Africa, North and South America. If you want to describe a European Jew, describe a European. If you want to describe an Asian Jew, describe an Asian. Etc. etc. for all the others. Your stereotyping is very insulting! I would suggest you interview local Jews before publishing anything in your school paper.

Well, although I am thinking of becoming a messianic jew, I have been born and raised a Catholic. I am half French, part English, German, Irish, Italian, native American, and maybe a little Dutch. However, I could really for for a Jewish person.. I look like a modern, liberal white Jew. :-p

It has to do with stereotypes; language, words used by Jews, certain physical traits. It is not about trying to find out how to spot a Jew, but Genesis 12.

Some do and some don't. I am not (as far as I know) but have been asked if I am.

Jews are human like anyone else of any color, ethnic group. What is looking Jewish? Jews are semites like the Arabs. Will looking Jewish also mean looking Arabic? Why should it matter?
