Your dad has a sense of humor.. .
Make yourself a grocery list of things you'd like to have for:
breakfast - lunch - dinner - and a few snacks (mid morning - between lunch and dinner - and evening: fruits - raw veggies - cheese..and such).. Make your list healthy. Oh! Paper products - dis soap - laundry soap - bath soap - shaving creme - blades..etc
Avoid un-necessary items.
Best way to do shopping is to avoid all inside isles ..
Please, avoid TV Dinners, as there's too much salt in most of them..
What are you able to cook.. country cooking magazines are good..etc.
Don't be afraid to ask for help while you're there, not all females bite.. unless you ask us too .
Have a girlfriend go with you, and help you make good choices..
Need recipes - go to foodtv.com and check out some of the programs there - 30 minute meals - Low Carb and Lovin' It - etc..
Buy spices as time goes on.. and money permits

Make a list. Stick to it. That's the first thing.
Never go to the store when you are hungry. You will buy things you don't need.
Read the labels. Especially read the "servings per package" on anything where you are looking at the calories and other nutritional data. They will say the serving size, but if it's in ounces or something, you may not know how much that it. But servings per package is something you can do by estimating a division. You will be surprised at the size serving they use in their calculations plenty of times.
Don't buy the cheapest, unless it's for a product where the quality is not going to be a major issue. Buy the best one that is not ostentatious luxury.

1. Dont shop hungry - you buy stuff you dont need.
2. Plan what you want to cook during the week and make a shopping list. Stick to it and dont get sidetracked.
3. Always look for specials. Generic brands are the same stuff with less fancy packaging (most the time).
4. Check expiry dates for any fresh foods. Get your diary and meat from the back of the shelf - most of the time that is where the fresher product is packed.
5. Experiment with new recipes/meals to make sure you keep yourself interested and keen to cook.

5 Steps on Food Shopping:
1. Make a list. It's much easier this way, because you spend less time looking for things.
2. Know what quality food looks like.
When you buy vegetables, for example, check for black spotted leaves, and things like that. You may want to avoid spinach right now because of the E.coli thing going around. When you buy fruit, don't take the first apple you see- check for bruises, etc. (and remember, it's good to buy green bananas, so they can ripen with time and you don't have to eat them as fast as possible.)
3. Just because it's on sale doesn't ALWAYS mean you should get it.
For example, sometimes things are on sale because no one wants it. Always check~ because it's buyer beware in some places.
4. Remember to check expiration dates before you buy things.
5. Coupons are your friends.
Seriously. With coupons, sometimes you save about half of the money you'd originally have spent without it.
Good luck! ^^

Well, if you're on the poor man's diet (as most folks these days are), first start with what we call "staples." Buy milk, cheese, eggs, butter & bread. These are the necessities. If you have these in your house, you'll never go hungry.
Of course, the inevitable Ramen noodles (eventhough they STILL taste like cardboard after all these years), umm...maybe some canned soups. Buy fruits/veggies that you like for snacks, maybe some crackers/Cheez Its (heck yea!), cereal, drinks (soda, juice, whatever you like to drink), Rice a Roni, and that oughtta do it.
I usually just walk up and down every single isle, but that **** can get expensive! Start small...your empire will grow! :D Good luck homeskillet!

dont go shopping on an empty stomach, youll be tempted to buy more than you need cos you're hungry. decide what you want to eat throught the week and write a list of things you need that way you won't get home with things missing. if you can help it try not to buy pre-packaged things like meat and veg, you usually get ripped off (last thing i brought was pre-packed bacon it cost $6 but there was only 3 rashers) if you cant cook get your mum to write down some of your favourite recipes for you or buy a cook book. look for specials. go for a bargain eg. if there's a 250g block of cheese for $3.50 and a 500g block for $5 its always cheaper to go the large one. don't forget to store your food in air tight containers so they don't go to waste

Make a list based on what you need or want in your kitchen to prepare meals with.
Look through the cabinets, refrig, freezer etc. while making your list so you don't buy anything you don't really need.
Stick to your list.
Compare your list to the grocery sale papers & go where the stuff you need is on sale.'

First decide what you want to eat then make a list and stick to it. That way, you will have what you need but you will not spend any extra money, thus saving quite a bit in the long run.
