got compaq laptop and cannot read a mini-sized installation cd. Can anyone help this cyber chimp many thanks?

Does the CD drive have an indentation in it's tray that the mini ( 8cm ) disc fits into?
If not, this could be why.

Another reason, are you putting the disc in the right way up?
Usually label / printed side up.

What do you mean mini-sized? If the disc isn't compatible w/ the system, it can't read it. Are you sure your Compaq can read mini CDs?
