I've always wondered this. Eh, but i'm not exactly considering getting a tattoo though...

I personally think it depends on where you put the tattoo AND what your threshold for pain is. I have two tattoos on my foot....I actually just got the second one done two days ago. The first one stung a little....I admit that I was wincing when I got it and the second one had two parts.....the first is right by my toes and it hurt like a B**** but not near enough to cry, and the second part was farther up on my foot and I could barely feel it....I guess it really depends on how much meat is in the area....but other than that it stings and afterwards somewhat feels like a bruise/burn....but not for very long.

It depends on the coloring.

If you are doing straight black they will tend to use a 4 prong needles to apply the color more quickly. THe lighter the color the more concentrated the alcohol is in the ink. So white and yellow sting the worst.

Overall i felt as if my skin was burning like not on fire but if someone was pressing something hot against it and rubbingit back and forth. Its uncomfrtable im not going to lie but something about it is also addicting and makes you want more. On an average sized tattoo ( the size of like a grapefruit the pain starts to subside a little but on larger pieces I tend to find that you just hit your absolute threshold and you just cannot take one more second of inking. That sucks the most cause then you have to wait for it to heal a little and come back. The back tat I have was the worst. 8 1/2 hours of inking.

It's not the most painful experience in the world. It's just basically a pin poking into your skin at about 400 mph and hitting your skin 5 times in a second. The pain is as measurable as someone pinching with really sharp nails and twisting over and over and over again. Someone people can bare it, others pass out or cry. I've seen them all. I have 6 tattoos now and plan on getting more still. The most painful spots are your neck, underarms, lower back, anyplace across the spine, and pelvic region. Think before you get anything. You don't want to regret it later.

The outline hurts much more in getting a Tattoo than the coloring does.. the outline feels like a really sharp knife is being dragged through your skin and the coloring feels like air (does not hurt) in fact it might tickle you. Now getting a tattoo behind the shoulder I believe will hurt because its right on the bone. More meat less bone less pain. Remember that.

It depends on where you have it put but you have to know that there are needles with ink going in and out of you skin quickly. The ones I have, I about fell asleep for and yet my son had his rib cage done and he said that hurt big time....and even my tattoo artist said the ribs is the worse place to get a tattoo and yet lots of people do.

Getting a tattoo feels like burning. But it does not hurt the whole time.

I would have to say that it feels different to everyone. To me it feels like being burned with a very hot iron. The lines aren't so bad but once we get to the shading an coloring...yeah thats when it starts to burn.

It burns more with a shading machine and 13 mag than anything else though!!!

Its like getting a thousand needles stuck in you at one time. Most of the time sting real bad. If i were you considering one i wouldnt i would stick with the fake ones.. thats what i tell my daughter she is 6 and already has them all over her body. it is tacky in some places. Some ppl also cant take ink very well and it looks like a jail house tatoo gone bad. I learned this from experience

It sort of feels like scraping your skin with a safety pin. If the tattoo is small and in a fleshy area of your body, it's tickly and annoying. In less fleshy areas (like over your spine) it can hurt like hell. Afterwards, it feels like a bad sunburn.
