I'm Ecuadorian, and just like latgal73 said, our country is no more dangerous than any other in Latin America. I've gone back 3 times this year, and 4 time all together in a year from today. I have to say that I feel safer and safer every time I go, even being on my own and taking myself from one place to another. Do visit the main economic capital, Guayaquil (my city). Our current mayor has done great things to keep various parts of our city clean and reconstructed. While you're there visit Malecon 2000, Barrio Las Peñas, Malecon 1900, our world-class museums. Other destinations that are great as well are: Quito (our capital) where there are MANY sites to see, such as: Mital del Mundo (the middle of the world, lat. 0'0"), the Teleferiqo, el Panecillo, palacio del Carondelet (this is like the white house for us), and the various gorgeous churches throughout the city. I was also fortunate to visit Galapagos, now this is THE place to be. If I could choose to live the rest of my life in one place, this is it!; it a true paradise, I will let you do the research on your own... I guarantee that you will fall in love with this place. Also visit Cuenca, the ruins of Ingapirca, Salinas, Ballenita (if you go in July, you will see the whales really really close). Hope it helped.

Hey I live in Ecuador (Guayaquil, coast area) and I can tell you this country is not more dangerous to visit than any other country in the world. And the good thing is that you can visit the mountains in the morning and be surfing in the afternoon. Our currency is the American dollar so you don't have to worry about that. Accomodation, transport and specially food are very cheap. We are peaceful but of course, you have to apply common sense to every situation you are in. for more information, refer to this page:

I was there last year and had a great time. The
bus travel was slow being a mountainous country, but we never felt like we were in a compromising situation. Have a great time but remember any time you travel you should take the normal, common sense approach to most situations.

Hi!!!!
As the people wrote here you have to be careful yes but as in any other city in the world.
Quito is a very nice city, the highlands, the coast, the jungle all of it is really nice and close. In my country you can find anything you want and the distance is short.

that's a complicated query because of the fact protection should not be your purely attention. First the three maximum secure countries in Latin u.s. are Chile, Bolivia and Costa Rica. i might count huge style out Chile because of the fact Chilean Spanish has some unusual effective components and that's optimal to pass someplace with a extra impartial accessory. besides, Santiago isn't on the brink of a sea coast and the sea in Chile is extremely chilly. i might reject the Domincan Republic and Cuba additionally on the foundation of accessory--except you desire to paintings with those communities interior the states. bodily you will stand out much less in Chile and Argentina because of massive German immigration to those countries. seashores are frequently no longer super places to earnings because of the fact there are too many travelers and you will't steer away from them once you pass out-- subsequently harder to prepare Spanish. in terms of protection by myself, Sucre, Bolivia and Costa Rica (I even have been in the two places over the previous 6 months) are your ultimate bets-- yet once you may upload in seashores then i might choose for Costa Rica.
