St. Ignatius of Antioch (1st century)
Ignatius, a convert from paganism, succeeded Peter as bishop of Antioch, Syria. During the persecution of the Roman emperor Trajan, he was taken to Rome to be eaten by wild animals. Along the way, he wrote several encouraging letters to the Church. He was the first writer to use the term "Catholic Church."

He was first to use the term "Eucharist" and first to call the body of believers the "Catholic Church"...I think.

Well, I had to cheat to get part two. I found out that he was also the first to emphasize Mary's virginity.
And also the first to declare the holy Trinity; and to present Jesus as both son of God and son of Mary.

Name:
Saint Ignatius of Antioch
Dates:
Born: c. 35
Died: c. 107
Became Bishop of Antioch: c. 69 Feast Day: October 17 (Roman Catholic and Antioch)
Feast Day: December 17 (Anglican)
Feast Day: December 20 (Greek Orthodox)
Biography:
Ignatius was one of the apostolic fathers in the Christian Church. He is best known for being singled out by emperor Trajan for execution. By killing one of Christianity's most prominent leaders, it was hoped that the Christian movement in general would be stopped - but the plan backfired. While be transported from Antioch to Rome, Ignatius had the opportunity to meet with Christians across the empire, communicating to them his ideas and serving as an example of Christian faith.
Even more important were seven letters that Ignatius wrote to various churches while he traveled. The first four were written to the churches of Ephesus, Tralles, Magnesia, and Rome. The last three were to the churches of Philadelphia, Smyrna, and to Polycarp the bishop of Smyrna. Among the things he attempted to teach in his letters was the idea that Jesus was both fully divine and fully human, that Jesus really suffered while on the cross, and that the Eucharist really is the flesh of Jesus Christ.

I've not heard of him; I'm familiar with the creator of the Jesuits, St. Ignatius of Loyola... I don't know if they're the same person, though.

Religion - a set of beliefs concerning the cause, nature,
and purpose of the universe often based on myth!
It seems to me this fits just about all human religions.
Why do we need religion anyway? It only seems to set us
one against another!
Do we embrace the notion of religion because we are to
frightened to acknowledge the possibility this is all
there is?
All contemporary religious dogma has failed humanity!
All contemporary religious dogma divides the human family!
All contemporary religious dogma causes too many tears!
The whole of humanity longs for something that will bring
us all together as Family. Something that will allow us to
embrace our unity.
Nothing I see on Earth today makes this possible!!!
Have fun but be safe.
