I have a very close relative who is turning 16 years old soon. I don't know what to get her, so I thought that cash would be the best thing. Can you think of a very creative way of giving her cash, or gift cards, without just sticking them in an envelope? I'm pretty good at making baskets up, but how can I do it with cash? Any ideas would be very helpful! Thank You Very Much!

You can actually fold the money up to look like roses. Then put them in a vase. I've seen this done. It's fantastic. Also my parents got a money tree for their 50th anniversary. Another creative idea.

How much money do you plan to give her? I would do this: In lieu of making the entire gift cash, I would make an investment in her future, say in a college fund, or a bond, or something along those lines, if the amount was over, say, $150. I would then give her $50-100 now, perhaps in $10's, folded in origami (the roses were a great idea, and there are lots of other shapes that would be easy to do). Put the bond/ deposit cert, in a nice, well-thought out card, and then put the little origami figures into a basket with some flowers and the card.

She will blow the cash now, but she will also have some left over for a time in her life when she may really need it the most.

I gave my 16 year-old cousin her first strand of freshwater pearls this year, which I think is a very nice and elegant gift for age 16. You could do something like that, as well, and put the money/deposit ticket in the goft box.

Get a very small basket. Cruple the money inside of it ( A good idea is putting as many bills as they are old, but it dosnt matter) Tie some mesh or see through material around it & give to the birthday girl. Most people have never recived money like that, & its actually kind of neat. Its also fun to sit there & guess how much is in there.

Tape one dollar bills together, end to end, them roll them up. Place them in a small, clean, frozen juice tin that you have cut a slot in, so the bills can be pulled out in a long strip.Place the lid back on the can. The first part of the strip can be your home -made birthday message, done on plain paper in the shape of a dollar bill. At the end of the strip of bills, on another plain sheet, you can tell her you're up for a shopping trip/lunch date. You can decorate the juice can with something that reflects her interests. If you are short on cash, it's a way of making a small cash amount look bigger. My granddaughter received this for a gift and just loved it.

Get a small box and use the money as gift wrapping. Put a small gift item inside the box, and put a pretty bow on it. You can even fold the bills and lay them out as ribbon too. I did this for each of my daughter's sixteenth birthday's and it has become something of a traditian in our family now. My siblings picked it up and did the same for their daughter's sixteenth birthdays. I know the first one is the nicest surprise, but the young girls in our families have come to look forward to their sixteenth money wrapped boxes. Each gets a different small gift inside, it is usually a peice of jewlery, like a charm, heart shapped locket, etc. Each family can choose how much money to give, and some of us have contributed $ for those who can afford less. The girls really like this.

How sweet of you to want to do something so special for your young relative. She is lucky to have you in the family.

Stuff the basket with bath goodies from Bath and Body Works and in the middle, put a gift card or check.

I think putting the money in a card is just fine. I would be really worried about anyone who wouldn't graciously accept a gift of cash.
