Someone once told me that in poker, you can't think of folding what turns out to be a winning hand as a lost opportunity. Instead of focusing on the money you could have made, you have to instead think about the money you didn't lose by betting unwisely into hands. That really helped me out a lot. Also, I used to worry because I'm not one of those people who goes by pot odds to determine whether I should stay in a hand. But then I heard that Chris "Jesus" Ferguson goes by the same "go with your gut" philosophy that I do.

I heard this a long time ago, but once I really understood what it meant, I turned a corner in my playing:
"At every table, at every stage of the tournament, there's someone playing over his head, on tilt, or just not playing his best game and is going to give away all his chips. If you can't figure out who that player is, then it's you."

The best advice I ever received is that the odds are always eventually going to catch up with you so stay away from the poker table and you'll always be a winner.

The single best piece of advice, wow that is a toss up I guess between, "dont get married to a hand" and "always put your opponent on a hand"

pay attention to what other players starting hands are. a/j suited for instance is a poor starting hand in early position...also, a/k sucks most of the time. always show it; give out a false tell that you think it is a powerful hand.

To accept the fact that, no matter how well you play, some times the cards just do not turn out your way, and you lose.
