Hi,
Below is copied from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland is a country in western Europe. It is a Commonwealth Realm, and a member of the European Union and NATO. Usually known simply as the United Kingdom or the UK, it is also often inaccurately named Great Britain, Britain or England (the most populous of the home nations). The UK has four constituent parts, three of which — the ancient nations of England, Wales and Scotland — are located on the island of Great Britain. ...

The two other guys are completely correct. Basically the UK contists of 4 countries - England, Scotland and Wales - Which are on the Island of Great Britain (or simply Britain for short) - Plus the country of Northern Ireland - Which is on the Island of Ireland. On the Island of Ireland, there is also another country called the Republic of Ireland - This is nothing to do with the UK or Great Britain, and have a different government, laws, currency etc. Fundamentally, the Laws between the four constituent countries of the UK are the same, but there are some differences, for example, Abortion is illegal in Northern Ireland, while it is legal in England, Scotland and Wales (Britain) and in Northern Ireland. The Scottish Secondary Educational system is slightly different to that in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.

England is the largest country in the United Kingdom. The United Kingdom consists of four sub-countries which are England, Scotland, Wales & Northern Ireland.
These four countries have flags of their own - Englands flag being the Saint Georges Cross (white flag, red cross), Scotlands Flag is Blue with a diagonal white cross, Wales' flag is half green & half white with a red dragon in the centre & Northern Irelands flag is the same as Englands but with an emblam in the middle of the cross showing a red hand.
The flag which incorporates all of these countries is called the Union Jack - the traditional Red, White & Blue.
No offence taken at all - maybe every state of America has its own flag - I don't know.

England is a single country. The United Kingdom is a nation comprised of 4 countries (England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland). The countries within the UK all have their own governments, flags, currency, culture, etc. However, they also have some commonality of governance. It is similar to US states and the federal govt, they each have their own autonomous laws but some federal laws rule everywhere. Also, while there are actaul currencies unique to the serperate countries, that currency is all the same value (British Pounds) even though it looks different.

When we say "United Kingdom" we actually mean "The United Kingdom of Great Britian and Ireland" - look on the front of your passport.
SO,
"Great Britian" is the kingdom of Scotland, the principality of Wales and the kingdom of England
"UK" is Scotland, Wales, England and Northern Ireland (prior to the creation of the Irish Free State, 1923?, it included the southern counties), and,
"the British Isles" is the UK, plus the Republic of Ireland and the Isle of Man.
Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, England, the Republic of Ireland, the Isle of Man, Jersey, Guernsey, Alderney and Sark each have their own national flags.
The Union Flag is the national flag of the United Kingdom.

Great Britain = England, Wales and Scotland...each country having their own flag.
The United Kingdom (UK) = England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. Known as the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
The flag for the UK is the Union Flag, or if it is flown on a ship/boat it is known as the Union Jack
See here for pictures of our flags....
