Let this be a lesson to you. Mac and cheese in any kind of prepackaged format is like baby vomit.

A lot of supermarkets have in-store kitchens where there is a real human being that will put together a sandwich or a plate with just the items that you pick from the display case. If you don't trust stuff like mac&cheese then just ask for meat sandwiches or cheese sandwiches or customized pizzas or chef's salads. If you find a good combo stick with it. If it tastes disgusting go right back to that counter and complain (because it did not come from an anonymous factory).

Those pictures on the boxes always look great but have nothing to do with the taste. They were hand done to look good and then photographed to best advantage. A lot of times when the box shows very perky whipped cream on a pie then their pitiful whipcream had been taken off and replaced with attractive- looking shaving cream to photograph well.

I rarely make mac & cheese from a box,but if you do, you can make it taste a little better by adding some seasonings. When you cook the macaroni, try adding some bullion, dried minced onion, italian seasoning, or what ever you have handy. Actually, when I cook pasta for anything, I always season the water.

Try making your own from scratch. It really isn't that hard.

Cook the pasta until done, drain and toss back into the pot. Add a little milk, butter, and what ever shredded cheese you have on hand. I also have added cream cheese to this and it makes it really creamy. My favorite combination is cream cheese, monterey jack, and sharp. I shred the jack and sharp myself. You can also add to this by adding salsa and ground beef with taco seasoning.

If time does not permit making your own, BOB EVANS has macaroni & cheese in the refrigerated secion of the grocery store and is really quite good.

If you make a chicken dinner ,use the left overs to make your own TV dinners,I do that with all my meals. Then when we are in a hurry we just pop them into the microwave and 6 sec's later we have a meal. There are some good frozen meals you could buy. Stoffers usually have good sales Look for them and stock up. Quick meals Take a can of delmonte Tomato sauce in a small pot put a drizzle of oil , lightly brown garlic and 1/4onion minced then put sauce in. Open a small can of peas drain the water and add to sauce. Take elbow macaroni and boil when the macaroni is done drain and put in a bowl add sauce and mix sprinkle with Parmesan cheese, You can make some extra dinners to be there when you need them,

Ugh, I'm having the same problem over here!! Well, you can never go wrong with pasta! I make spaghetti in a pinch-just boil some spaghetti noodles and throw some Ragu on top. I know, it's Ragu, but they have some pretty good varieties.

Another thing I've learned to cook since I've been on my own is lemon-pepper chicken filets. I just buy the package of frozen chicken breasts (boneless, skinless) from Wal-Mart or similar store,
then I defrost about 2 or 3 of them and sprinkle lemon-pepper seasoning on it, and then I just put them in the oven on 375 degrees for about 25 minutes. If you pair that with some Stove Top stuffing and some canned corn niblets, you've got yourself a whole meal!

Another thought- sometimes my mom cooks and packs up leftovers in Tupperware for me to have at my house. Do you think your mom would ever cook you some extra next time she makes something tasty? Then you could keep it in your freezer and defrost it as you go.

Why buy macaroni cheese, cheap & simple to make and much nicer. All you need to do is make a basic cheese sauce, cook macaroni, cover with cheese sauce, top with grated cheese and put under grill or into oven until browned and bubbly - beautiful! Try all in one method for making cheese sauce- I promise it works. Put 1 pint milk, 1 tbsp flour, 1 oz butter into pan. Bring to boil stirring all the time. Simmer for 3 minutes, add grated cheese (I use Red Leicester but pick what you like) Taste to make sure it's right for you - add more cheese, mustard if you want, a touch of worcester sauce or tabasco - or you might like to add these when serving. Try cooking for yourself - it's not hard. You'll make mistakes but you will make some great meals!

try cooking for yourself. macaroni cheese isnt hard to make from scratch all you have to do is cook the macaroni and make a cheesy sauce. melt 1 tablespoon of butter in a saucepan stir in 1 tablespoon sifted flour and salt and pepper to taste 1 cup of milk. keep stirring over heat until thickened and bubbling, then add 3/4 cup grated cheese and stir until melted. stir through cooked macaroni and enjoy. (cheese sauce recipe above is only enough for about 1 person so if you need more simply double.)

you could also try spaghetti bolognaise all you need to do for the sauce is cook some mince meat add a crushed clove of garlic and an onion, a tin of tomatoes and some dried italian herbs and a little bit of sugar so the tomatoes arent so acidic. let it thicken and tada you have bolognaise sauce, its also great on toast....
good luck

Get yourself a cookery book, something easy by Jamie Oliver or Deliah Smith and get cooking yourself, it is much cheaper and you will feel a great sense of satisfaction that you can finally fend for yourself. I find it incredible that some parents don't teach their kids the basics, surely you know how to cook something simple? That has to be much better than take away.

Things in packets don't match up to the picture on the front. The reason is: Rule One of advertising and marketing - you aren't selling the product, the thing itself, you're selling the image in the advert and/or on the packet. That, the image, is what the adman tries to get people to buy. (Rule Two, by the way, - try to make people feel inadequate or otherwise miserable because they don't have the c**p you are trying to sell.)

The cheese in box mixes is a powdered cheese and it tastes like s----. Try making mac and cheese from scratch. Boil the mac until tender and drain. Put some shredded cheese in it, as much as you like and stir to mix it, oh you also may want to add a bit of butter. I like to add some salt and pepper to it too. It is pretty good this way.

Ifell for the old looks nice on the box trick with a pizza the other day. Tasted like someone had spilt the contents of a sick bad on some stale bread.

Very poor
