"Branding News brief: Rubicon launches Sensory Straw
Marketing 25 Aug 2004 00:00
Rubicon, the exotic juice brand, is launching a Sensory Straw, which has four small holes rather than one large one, an innovation said to improve the drinking experience. It will be available on 288ml cartons from October." ~brancrepublic.co.uk (link below)

What: Sensory straw - we've had the next generation of mobile phones, now it's time for the next generation of straws.
Why: Exotic juice supplier (no, it's not rude) Rubicon has invented a new style of straw that places liquid at the back of the tongue away from the "sweet" taste-buds and on to the area best suited to pick up bitter tastes. The straw has a flat top and four small holes, which allow the liquid to flow in multiple directions, drenching the tongue and stimulating all the taste-buds, for a fuller burst of flavour.
Good for: Juicier juice.
Bad for: Your teeth.

Hi Siinocolo1. A dodgy bulk order from china caused this dreadfull mistake! the straw should be hole free and stand erect and proud.
On a serious note, there are many similar types of Straws with holes. Rubicon claim to have devised a revolutionary straw, which enhances the flavour by causing more of the beverage to make contact with the taste buds at the back of the tongue. I suppose the proof is in the drinking! Kind regards. DR.DS

They also sell it in cans. I like the guava flavour.
I don't have any idea why the straw should have holes in - surely that would stop it working?
I would just buy it in cans.

I believe it is to allow air in with the drink to enhance the flavour, as wine buffs do when they take a swig and then breath in through the wine
