"Scotch" is whisky distilled in Scotland. Whether it's malt whisky, blended, grain, what have you. The only requirement is that it be made exclusively in Scotland and be aged a minimum of 3 years.

"Rye" is any whisk(e)y whose primary grain (>51%) is rye...whether it's American, Canadian, Irish, etc.

Whisky- or whiskey is made from grains
Rye Whisky is made from Rye but today that title is used loosely to describe any American or Canadian Whisky
Bourbon is made from Corn
Irish is made from Wheat with some other grains
Canadian is made from Wheat, Rye ,corn either exclusively or blended
Scotch is made only from Barley roasted over peat fires and can only be made in Scotland by law- however Lowland scotch does use wheat also
The term Highland whisky is often used to describe Whiskey made from Barley like scotch but in other countries such as Japan, Europe and Canada

scotch is barley based 100% for single malts and distilled only in Scotland rye is distilled in the US and must be 51% or more rye

scocth is brewed with barley and rye is brewed with rye. they are different grains.
also, scotch has to come from Scotland; if you brew a barley whisky outside of that country you are still not allowed to call it Scotch; it might be called bourban or sipping whisky. most rye comes from North America.

rye is distilled from a grain mash of 80% corn and is aged in reused charred oak barrels.scotch is blened whiskeys from natural barley grain and scotchish pot stills.all he scotch blends contain malt & grain whiskey.the flavor comes from drying malted barley over peat fires.It is made only in Scotland.Scotch is usually 40 years old and between 80-86 % proof.....
IMO rye is gross
