It's his wedding...he can wear what he wants!!!!! I plan on wearing white converse all stars, so I'm comfortable AND still me on my big day. I also plan on a black and white ceremony, so my man will be in black and so will the brides maids. There is nothing wrong about wanting to wear black on your wedding day...unless you are the bride...then she'll look like she's not ready for the wedding. lol

I think the gangster issue can be addressed in the cut of the tux and shirt/tie involved. Think Cary Grant. If you went with the standard "prom" look, it might be weird. I'd definitely avoid a bow tie with that color scheme. I don't think there are any rules against it, but I'm not catholic.
I had my maids wear black and even encouraged the guests to wear black (no, I'm not Emo or Goth) and the wedding was absolutely gorgeous. It had a very formal feel without being stuffy (we were on the lawn at a five star resort). I say, throw him this bone if you think it won't ruin your pics. If it will ruin your wedding pictures, then maybe bribe him with something else. :o) The pics are all you have left after the big day, and everyone will want to see them.

Have them all wear classic black tuxedos - white vest/tie for the groom, black vest/tie for the groomsmen. They can wear white butonnieres. Seriously, they could care less about incorporating your wedding colors. Don't ask them to wear pale pink or pale yellow. Let them have some dignity.

My cousin wore an all black tuxedo (including shirt, west and tie). His groomsmen, myself included, wore black tuxedo and shirt, but the vest and bowties were different colors (mine was grey). The bride wore a white dress, and the bridesmaids wore gown the same color of the vest/tie as her groomsman escort.
The couple chose those colors themselves because they are artists and wanted some fun included in the service.
The ring bearer was the brides poodle with hair dyed a few different colors.

He will look like a gangster or a mortician. He would look good, but he would probably look good in anything. Try to switch it up a bit. Maybe instead of a black shirt, use another dark color like deep purple, navy or choclate brown. What is your colors. Try to use it in his attire. On the other hand if it's his dream...who cares. He will be happy in it and you will love him for it. Get hima bootineer with lots of color. Have a great day!

Flately the riverdance person got married in ireland at the weekend and the bridesmaids wore black dresses, each to their own taste, I think all black would be a bit morbid.

He won't look like a gangster--but he might look like a funeral director.
If it's his dream, and his wedding, go for it.
Usually though, you'd like to have some color to match the bride somewhere on the tux...like a matched bowtie.

I was in a wedding where all the bridesmaids also wore black - it was truly beautiful and tasteful. If he looks good in it, go for it!

i think you are right --he should wear all black --including the shirt. indeed this is a sad day -- the marriage -- so he should proudly celebrate it like if it were a funeral of his freedom. indeed it is kind of funeral.
of course -- the bride has to wear all white. this is her day -- when she delights in getting "her man" -- all the best to the couple -- and how about you -- are you wearing black, white or red?
PS. gangster loOK is ok too -- it reminds people of the good old days how Chicago was built...enjoy.

Sure he'll look like a reject from The Sopranos but what the heck there are no laws, religious or otherwise against it. Just good taste. And thats not worth a plugged yen anymore.
