I suggest that we implement the draft and DO NOT exclude anyone. This includes, daughters, sons, wives, children, senators, presidents, and president's wives and daughters. This would be the quickest way to end this psychotic Iraqi war. What do you think?

admirable thought, I am all for it, but you have to nail it down and nobody could be a draft-dodger, regardless of age, religion, gender and what not? mmmh. maybe its time for a Woman in office.

What me concern's, being the most powerful Nation on Earth, brings with it some dirty deeds, especially with extraneous forces, one has to defend regions they are far from our popularity and concern, so it seems. The American public, as I know it is a very peace loving and fun loving society, where the main concern is one's health and well being.

But to keep these hard earned privileges, one has to look over the fence, to see whats coming and what not. And its not an easy decision for ANY President to do what's needed to be done, regardless of the public opnion.

If there was really a universal draft, don't you think this President would be fighting 2 or 3 (or more) wars by now? A volunteer army is the best motivated and effective military force. Sending those who don't want to go is self-defeating. Turning the profession of soldiers into an honourable profession again (better pay, training, benefits, equipment) after it has been dragged through the mud (Vietnam, etc) and supporting the families of those who serve is our better option.
Unfortunately, many must sacrifice for freedom. Let's not belittle the ones who have done so by sending those unwilling to do the same. SUPPORT THE TROOPS.
Besides, a Draft just wouldn't fly.

Well Israel does have a mandatory law that makes people (might be men only) serve for so many years which is kinda like the draft. But we don't need the draft to fix the Iraq war. We still have a sufficient number of troops here in the U.S. and if things got worse we could deploy much more. I am afraid of the draft coming back if something goes wrong with North Korea though.

thats true! I certainly agree with you. None of the congress people son and daugthers are not in war. They are scared! They are making us fight, if I hear a senator's son or daughther ever enlist in the armed force, hell I will be damn happy that we are all in this together, barriers are destroyed you know what I mean. But since they aren't, I am not convinced with bush saying
"america is fighting 'Together' in this war" because where are all the senates and house of representatives, hell even bush's daughther, where are they anyway? I feel the average americans are fighting together not the political people.

I reject your premise that this is a "psychotic" war. The war in Iraq is an example of asymmetrical warfare. We are winning, but you will not read that in the New York Times. Just remember, Jayson Blair worked for them. If you are concerned about increasing diversity in the military, feel free to enlist.

Why could desire to Muhammad Ali supply first-classification provider for a u . s . a . that seen him a 2nd classification citizen. Many African human beings that went to previous wars have been taken care of like subject-loose criminals whilst they have been given to the states. many human beings forget that Ali's time and right this moment are distinctive. It replaced into unlawful to refuse to pass to conflict yet completely legal to attach African human beings of their residences and rape their women persons. If Muhammad Ali could have been taken care of like a citizen, it is yet another tale. death for a freedom that your team of persons are not getting in a u . s . a . is absurb.

I agree that a draft should be implemented but to protect us here in the U.S.

Since our reserves and national guard are being squeezed to fight in Iraq that tells me there are not enough regular military enlistments to maintain our troop strengths.

In fact, I believe we should maintain our troop strength in peace time also. It's not that I like supporting troops at home, while they go on their 2 week tours or do their one week end a month duty but more like we are willing to maintain our strength and vigilance always. Anyway, why do they call them reserves?

We need to have resources fight our battles, not reserves!
I say everyone over 18 owes Uncle Sam a few years.

What a groovy opinion. The reason there is no draft is that there is no reason for one other than childish attempts at political manipulation. The volunteer military is the best in the world. I would not care to damage it so that ultra leftists could get a warm fuzzy

it would be nice, but i'm sure you know as well as i do that that will never happen. it's never happened and never will. no senator or president will let their child go to war. if they even did, they wouldn't be on the front lines like any of us would be. but you know thats not what this country is about though. its the average citizen that preserves the freedom of this great country. thats what makes teh average american better than the privelaged ones.
