I'm coming up on my ten year mark in the Air Force as an avionics technician on aircraft and I have done well and like my job. The military will definitely teach you new skills, dicipline and structure, but you will also meet a lot of people along the way and build bonds with people that rarely happens outside of military service. Is it tough? Sure, but a lot of things are and if you come in with the right attitude you can be very successful. There are several things that people like and dislike about their jobs civilian and military alike, it just depends on your attitude.

If you need money for college, have no other place to turn or just feel like serving your country, the military has a lot to offer.

You can take it however you like as well. You can try the AF which is probably the less diciplined of the services, but in ways a lot more technical. You can still join the Security Forces or other special operations teams in the AF if that is what you crave. The Navy, Army and Marines are also all good services that each have their plusses and minuses. I can't really tell you about any others as I have (and still am) serving in the Air Force.

There are all types of jobs in different career fields. I am a Foreign Area Officer and an Air Defense Artilleryman. I work in embassies and Air Force Bases, have great promotion rates, and get paid 132k a year after just 10 years of service. I love it.

Some people enjoy light infantry, being out in the wilderness, getting a little dirty. Others like technical jobs, like aircraft mechanics or avionics. Some like jumping out of airplanes. What is most important is that you get a job that you like.

After just 4 years of service, I got offers from several civilian companies for jobs starting at over 100k a year, and I had just an average college GPA and my major was useless (German). It is because of the skills I got in the military.

For me, I love the travel, and my family of 4 loves it too, even though I have been deployed, which is a fact of military life. I hope this helps you decide. Good luck to you.

Lets be real for a second. the military has its ups and downs like any other job. There are days where you are ready to go charging into North Korea Rambo style, and there are days you feel used by a system. Overall, the pay and bennies are good, deployments suck if you have a wife and kids back home, but you cant help but have some pride for the work you do, no matter how complex or menial it may be.

Yes, i like it.like my other brother in arms who answered your question.there are always ups and downs like any thing in this life.if you are looking for adventure, the military is for you.if you are the easily distracted ar the faint of heart.think long and hard, this is a serious profession, for serious persons, specially in the combat duty roles, though the military have positions to a very broad spectrum of individuals with different specialties/traits.missed bdays/annivs etc. is some of the cons.Freedom is a very expensive commodity these days, and we must pay the bill.im doing my part in helping "Paying The Bill"

Who AM I ? 7 years in the game and still going strong
15+ spec ops a year
Im not an american but my collegues are
patriotic americans who serve their country.

don't believe what people say on here. most of the people for or against it have never been in the military. ask someone who you know was or is in the military. and don't ask a recruiter. according to my brother, who was a marine, the military is much better for a single person than a married person. but he also said that depends on your job and where you are stationed. honestly you would really have to find out for yourself to know for sure.

If you feel that you would like it then you should go for it. In any branch of the military you will make friends that will last a lifetime and have experiences that others will only imagine. You will improve upon yourself as a person by gaining confidence and pride in yourself.

I was in for twenty years. I enjoyed most of my time in. I spent time in Germany, England, Korea, Spain (When they were part of NATO) and Turkey. Most of the Commanders in Chief that I served under were fine men and great military leaders. But then there was a peanut farmer and a draft dodger that needed lots of help. As with any job, you will have great times and you will also have bad times. How you deal with it will determine if the good outweigh the bad.

its fun stuff. you have all kinds of oppertunitys in the military. there are all kinds of badges you can earn and the likes. there are a lot of choices that you can make about what you are aiming for in the military. if you have nothing better to do you might as well.

military life is the best. the pay may not be much to start out, but you can't beat the benefits. i was born into the army, enlisted in the army and now married to a soldier.
