1) A French Nun: Mother Theodore Guerin who educated Americans on the frontier.
2) Mexican Bishop: Rafael Guizar Valencia who attended to the wounded during the Mexican Revolution.
3)Italian Priest:Filippo Smaldone who educated and assisted with deaf people.
4)Italian Nun: Rosa Venerini who pushed to establish the first public schools for girls in Italy.

To the nay sayer above... The Catholic church has a very diplomatic and scientific way of naming saints. As opposed to the Anglican church founded on slavery who decides to get all PC and name Harrient Tubman and Sojourner Truth as Anglican saints. They were not Anglican. Maybe their masters were. I don't know. But I think that's just too wrong for words.

One of the new saints is Mother Theodore Guerin, the foundress of the Sisters of Providence, whose order is in my town. Our newspaper here has a huge online feature about her. Check out the first link below.
I'm not Catholic, but since my two favorite topics of study and conversation are religion and politics, I find this to be a fascinating event.

Does it matter? Do you think the Catholic church has any legitimate say in who is a saint or not?
If I read the Scriptures correctly, a saint is anyone who names G-d as their Father.
Also, Scripture calls for the denying of oneself, so as far as the Catholic church saying someone is or is not a saint; not.
