#1 for high blood pressure is low sodium, or low salt. #1 for cholesterol is low animal products.

One idea - make homemade salsa. Tomato, onion, cilantro, and whatever peppers you want. Make a bunch of rice - checking to make sure your rice has no added salt. Prepare some black beans, canned OK if no salt added, but better to do yourself. Alternatively, saute boneless skinless chicken breast in olive oil, then shred chicken when cooked through.

Mix all of this up. You can eat it out of a bowl, make a burrito or taco, freeze it to preserve for a while, or eat fresh when it's done.

You control the sodium, you control the cholesterol, and it's much more taste than oatmeal.

3 years ago, I was diagnosed - hypertension with a reading of 160/100. I used to feel dizzy a lot, my legs had awful cramps, and levels were very low in my potassium, causing my fingers and toes to always cramp together. One day I started to feel really faint while I was driving with my daughter in the back seat and I passed out, hitting 3 cars and ending up in a ditch. That moment,I knew I had to do something because my meds weren't working. I heard about this diet from a friend and thought I'd give it a shot. The results have been remarkable. In just 21 days, I honestly can't remember feeling this good, my blood pressure went from 175/110 to 125/70.

In the trenches method: I make a big batch of rolled oats once a week -- keep batch in fridg. -- get up, mix the cold oats with soy milk and drink the damn thing down. Don't have time to like or dislike. Then if you eat some fruit or something, great, or whole toast and peanut butter -- fine. Regardless you got the good stuff in ya. Now hit the coffee -- skim lattes.

shredded wheat, chex, grits, cream of wheat, egg beaters, low sodium turkey or chicken sausage(if you can't find any in the store, just buy a package of ground turkey or chicken and add poultry seasoning or sage and other seasonings without salt and form patties), whole grain breads for toast with heart friendly margarine. remember to use low/non fat dairy products.
