This is a single rooted tooth, compared to molars with 4-5. If the canal opening stays small, and the chamber is small you do not have to do a crown. Also if the tooth is in good condition, meaning not a lot of fillings in it. You will be okay with out a post, or crown. Many dentists do not like crowning one front tooth only because it is hard to match the shade, if you do the two front teeth you have a little play with the color.
You still need to treat this tooth with kindness, no opening bags with your teeth, or trying to pull tags off with your teeth, also anything hard like carrot sticks, use your side teeth to bite them.
It's to late because your dentist put bonding on your tooth to change the color, but you can do an internal bleach on a root canal treated tooth and get great results without bonding.

First of all, don't listen to people when they say it hurts really badly to have a root canal done. You will be numb just like having any other dental work done and shouldn't feel a thing! The pain people experience is due to a terrible infection that causes a person not to be able to get numb! If the infection is caught before you are in excruciating pain, you will be able to get numb. The dentist makes a small opening in the tooth on the back side/ tongue side. Some occasions, the dentist will be able to place a tooth colored filling in the hole after they fill the canal. Other cases, a crown is needed. When either a filling or crown is done, we use a "shade guide" which shows many different colors that can be used for the filling or crown so it will be matched to your other teeth. After a root canal, a tooth can discolor, usually just gets darker. This takes (usually) many years. It does not always happen. If it does happen and there was not a crown on the tooth, sometimes a veneer can be placed or internal bleaching done. Everything is on a case by case basis.

The only reason this tooth would need a crown on it is if there was lots of decay or it was damaged & broken. You're dentist would be the best to tell you if you need one and it sounds like you don't. There are a couple of different things you can do to a front tooth that is starting to darken due to a root canal: 1) Internal bleaching--nothing you have to be numb for and you typically get nice results, but has to be re-done every couple of years. 2) A veneer, which is similiar to a crown only it covers only the front surface of the tooth making it blend it with your other teeth. An expensive option, that last a long time, but you have to "baby" veneered teeth (no using your teeth as tools). I would recommend going with the internal bleaching first, since it's less expensive and seeing how that works out for you. Set up a time to discuss these options with your general dentist to see which would work best for you. Good luck

When you have RCT done it is necessary for that tooth to be crowned. Some dentists do it right away while other's prefer to wait a few months just in case.
The reason your tooth is discolored is b/c it is not vital anymore. The nerve has been removed.
After your RCT is complete you should have a seperate appointment for a post and core and a temporary crown. This visit will consist of reopening the the canal and placing a little metal piece that looks like a tiny screw. This will reinforce your tooth. Then your tooth will be preped for a crown and a temp. will be placed at the same visit.
This whole procedure should take about 1 hr. to 1 1/2 hrs. depending on the Dr.
I am a dental assistant and I have never heard of placing bonding material on the tooth and saying that your tooth is fixed. It's not!

I would suggest getting the crown done especially on your front tooth. The tooth is brittle after having a root canal and essentially the tooth is dead. I wouldn't wait for it to crack or break to do it.
Hope this advice helps and good luck!

Your tooth is dead if it's darkening. Hence the root canal. It's weaker now so...only time will tell...
