I converted a 350MB .avi file to DVD format. But why does the DVD format take 2.1 Gigs of storage?? Shouldn't it take the same as the .avi file?

Higher resolution requires
more data, which in turn
requires more space.
HD DVD or Blu-Ray is
even worse (respectively).

for the best of picture u can get onto dvd it will be convert the file to mpeg-2,
but u can keep the file smaller by convert them to vcd or svcd quality.

DVD uses MPEG2 that needs much bigger bitrate to hold the same quality as DivX and bitrate translate to file size bigger.
