warts and all came from a person called Cromwell who was the rebelling side of the British civil war Cromwell had a lot of warts on his face which were big as well

The quote comes from Horace Walpole, 1762-1771.

Mr. Lely, I desire you would use all your skill to paint my picture truly like me, and not flatter me at all; but remark all these roughnesses, pimples, warts, and everything as you see me, otherwise I will never pay a farthing for it."

From this came the expression "warts and all."
