Lumineers are one brand of veneers that are very thin (can be as thin as a contact lens) and require very little tooth preparation.

As for which lasts longer, it is hard to say. Just go to a dentist with good experience with both lumineers and traditional veneers and he can help you make a very informed decision.

Cost of veneers varies according to the type used. * Porcelain veneers are more expensive than their composite resin counterparts. Traditional porcelain veneers are about 0.5 millimeters thick, and may cost from $500 to $2,500 per tooth. Porcelain veneers can last 10 to 15 years. * Composite veneers cost approximately $250 to $1500 per tooth and are expected to last 5 to 7 years. * The Lumineers® brand may cost around $700-$1,300 per tooth. Lumineers® claims to last for over 20 years. There may be a fee for the initial consultation ($65-$102) and X-rays ($13-$135). Veneers are rarely covered by dental insurance.

in my opinion, lumineers look terrible. it looks like tooth colored formica. you will be much happier if you get traditional veneers. just google some images of lumineers and pay close attention to the place where tooth and gums meet. with lumineers this margin looks bulky. also, lumineers haven't been commonplace for too long so the long term studies are not as large as traditional veneers. i choose not to do lumineers but that's my personal opinion.
