What are the best web sites for learning through chatting about islam? What can I do to be closer to Allah when I feel so far away?

Are you a Muslim! If you want to be close to Allah. Take my advice and do NOT chat. Read about what you need to do. When you chat other people, you will get others who will plant the seed of doubt in you, and instead of bringing you close to what you want, it will take you away. Also, make sure that what you learn is not from a hate site, so you will learn to become close to what you want, not build up hate against other people.
Sorry, I don't think I am much help, but I wanted to advice you on where to look for what you need.

You can chat and attend lectures online on the above website, especially on weekends.
If you have a good internet connection then you can watch video lectures by lots of Islamic scholars from USA, almost all of whom are converts.
Some are Khalid Yasin, Hamza Yusuf, Bilal Philips, Yusuf Estes.
Read the Qur'an in the light of the circumstances it was revealed in, that will clarify lots of things to you.

I agree with Trinity, you want the truth and not man made which is in every religion. You just have have enough sense to distinguish what is really true and what is being doubted and made by man made thoughts. Go directly to the father and he will lead as long as you stay focused..

but if u want to be close to Allah u will be closet at ur invocation and ur worship but Allah is always close to u
