Canon and Nikon make the best (digital) SLR cameras. Leica still has a niche market with its rangefinder cameras. And Haselblad is the best for (digital) medium format.
Digital cameras are better than film in low light situations. They're about equal to film or slightly behind film in other areas, but the difference is so close that most pros have already made the switch.

Current race for small format SLR type cameras(digital now mainly) is between Nikon and Canon. Both offer high specification systems with ranges of lenses. There are other manufacturers eg Pentax and Olympus, but it really is a two horse race now. Nikon only manufacture one professional 35mm film camera. The F6 which costs around £1500. Digital is more convenient, but still doesn't offer the quality achievable by film, however, this hasn't stopped photographers going over to digital.

Please clarify, what's your meaning of a professional digital camera? The digital camera you like, what's it assume to have? because after 12 hours you haven't any longer spoke back in extra comments i'm no longer able that may assist you. incredibly everyone seems to be suggesting DSLRS. yet you i've got self assurance do no longer understand what you're searching for, that could ok be a factor and shoot with handbook settings.

Hassleblads for artistic
Nikon digital SLR for general purpose
Lenses and/or backs based on your need, ie Telephoto, Motorized, Closeup, etc.

The best would be the new Blad, but at $50,000.00 who can afford one.
