Its more than likely wat my mum used to call "growing pains"...which means the legs are growing. I can remember them quite vividly lasting up until I was about 12 years old. They can be nasty to experience and a small dose of a paracetamol should help in giving some relief to the child. If you are still concerned it might be worth a visit to your family Dr.

Is that the only symptom? Not much to go on, bit he or she may have pulled a muscle. When kids are running and playing around, they may do these things. Try an ice pack and keep it elevated. If it doesn't improve in an hour or two, call the doctor.

Most probably it should be growing pains.
If there are no other symptoms, the pain is mostly occurring during night and the child is able to run and walk freely during the day then it is the most probable diagnosis.

It could be a spine problem.
Especially because you say it is bad.
You should have your 7yr. old seen by a doctor as soon as you can, to rule out any spine problems.
