I can't answer question 1. In regards to question 2, I'm not certain what you are asking? I'll assume you are asking what's the best time of the day to swim in regards to health. In that case, I'm told that it's better to swim earlier in the day than late. That's not just true of swimming but of all exercise. Exercising late in the day seems to interfere with sleep - it will keep you awake later and make it harder to fall asleep.

Question 3 is something everyone has an opinion on and likes to debate. I have yet to see anyone present a provable best answer. So I say, do what exercise you enjoy. You are more likely to keep exercising if you do what you enjoy doing.

The best thing about water sports or exercising in the water is that it's non-impacting to your joints like knee's and ankles. I have bad knee's and a shattered ankle with a torn ligament to go with it. My doctors tell me that water sports or even just walking in the water would be the best thing for me. It's also quite beneficial to people who are morbidly obese. Once again, the water supports your weight and takes the strain off the joints. The water support allows me to exercise longer because I also have a bad back. The water helps support my back and thus I can exercise longer before my back starts to hurt and I need to sit down to rest my back muscles.

Hope that helps.

Swimming is primarily an aerobic exercise due to the relatively long exercise time, requiring a constant oxygen supply to the muscles, except for short sprints where the muscles work anaerobically. As with most aerobic exercise it is believed to reduce the harmful effects of stress. While aerobic exercises usually burn fat and help with losing weight, this effect is limited in swimming, even though being in cold water burns more food energy to maintain body temperature.

The reason that swimming does not significantly reduce weight is still poorly understood, but seems to be related to the better heat conduction of water. A number of reasons are suspected.

MY mom and i took a kickboxing class in the water for a month. it was good cardio for her, but not for me. it toned my legs and sides really well. the class was around 9 pm. doing anything with cardio will lose the weight fast. don't be so concerned with calories. just have a picture in your head as to what you want your body to look like, and work hard and eat right and you'll get it. the link down there is for a really good workout book. it's so easy and it works like crazy. good luck
