Only if they truly understand and support it. Most petitions are a waste of taxpayer money.

It depends on the issue being petitioned and where I stand on the issue.

A duty isn't the same thing as a liberty or freedom. Petitions are a part of the freedoms of speech and right to a solemn assembly. Signing them is never a requirement.

I think as a citizen of this country, we have certain duties that I hope we Americans took more seriously. But should people be forced to sign documents pertaining to socially important ideals and changes? No. I think that if we start mandating for such things, this strips away certain liberties guaranteed to us by the Constitution. I'm not a hard advocate of liberties, but I am a firm believer that there are certain things that take away our freedoms and I think that freedom and choice are the greatest rights guaranteed to us. Now, what we choose to do, is simply up to us. Unfortunately, we don't always make the best choices, nor do we always excersise our right to be heard as often as we should.
