My husband spent many years overseas. In Europe they are called "Black" and unfortunately some still are racist and use the derogatory names we use. I think our country is trying to call them "people of color." And Oprah is one of the ones using that terminology. I do not think it will catch on because I do not think most Blacks like to be lumped into a category of people of color. They need their own identity. Unfortunately, it seems they cannot make up their minds among them what they were called "colored people" for years. Then they changes it too "Black" and some of them refer to themselves as African American (which is ridiculous unless they or their ancestors are from Africa. The whites came from Europe and we have never called ourselves Euro-American. or European White? Go figure. I doubt we will ever get it right. I personally am not a racist and would willingly call them whatever they prefer but you cannot get all of them to agree? Hope this helps.
