ET's are the guys who pull the circuit boards and sauder the wires if this is what you want go for it. If not then you want fire control man or operations specialist. FC's run computers that fire the ships weapons and they will maintain those systems . OS's run the radars and plot enemy positions and are in the combat information center. personnel man do the paper work they use computers to do data processing of personnel records. Cryptography is good for computer geeks dealing with all those secret codes and knowing before anybody else does what going on.

You may have lucked out into one of the best and proudest jobs in the Navy.
MAYBE NOT.
Unless things have changed, it takes a year of schooling to become an Elecrtonics Technician, on shore. Not on ship.
Things may have changed. Years ago, ET's never just signed up and took off on a ship.
I'm betting that it is a good job. BUT, It's not me, it's you.

it's an ok job to have, and one that will make it a little easier to find a job afterwards, as submarine-related folks are often well-received at other jobs.
