Canadians as a whole, tend to be more accepting to immigration (particularly when compared to the US).
Canada has always been know as an ideal place to emigrate to: the underground railroad to escape US slavery, land grants to the Scottish to escape the "potato famine", Chinese escaping communism, Americans escaping the draft... Canada is a true melting pot of ethnicity.

You need to make the difference between racism and zenophobia. You can't normally be racist against immigrants, because they can represent a number of races, including one's own. Canada was very open to the last wave of immigrants that came in from Hong Kong. The reason: they came with a lot of money! Their race was no obstacle at all.
Actually Canada is not all that generous to immigration. We pick and choose. It is very difficult for a person who is seeking refugee status.
I believe more immigration would only enrich Canada in the long run.
I believe having a more open policy toward refugees would help to make up for some of the inequities in the world, some of which we bear some responsibility for.

There is no question that when it comes to immigration, Canada is one of the most generous countries in the world. England, France, Sweden and other countries are actually tightening their borders. Maybe Canada should follow suit. We just cannot sustain (through social programs) keeping the immigration population afloat. Our taxes are out of control!!

How can you be racist against an immigrant? What color are we assuming these immigrants are going to be? Are they all going to be that color?Since they have a guestworker program in place already( thought they are already being pressured to take in much more by Vicente Fox), they must not be racist. They're giving in. That seems to be the defintion of a non-racist nowadays, doesn't it?

People are not racist unless they hate the human race each culture that states another (person) is racist is saying that they are less human than the one the are accusing of being racist.
Fact is most canadians are sick and tired of the open door immigration policy that immigrants get and then expect us to adapt to their cultures and them not to ours.
Multiculturalism does not work.
Equality does.
