The last day on earth will be in about 5 billion years time when the sun has used its fule and expands outward so that the orbit of the earth will be inside the sun we will burn away to nothing. I don't think that the humans will be here at that time have died off of or left before that happens. Then in about 15 billion years time Andromeda will hit the milky way tearing them both about and that will be the end of that.
A lot longer than that all matter in the universe will have been eaten by the black holes and then there will be darkness but then the black holes will slow spit bit out matter atom at a time (True read Stephen Hawkins) then all that will be will be a thin soup of stuff floating around nothing no stars and planets and probably very on the remains life that is left.

The world as we know it will probably freeze out if we humans don't find a quicker more painful was to discharge the inevitable. When the sun cools down and the earth is no longer habitable the last few remaining life forms will quietly go to sleep through euthanasia and the myth of the final judgement will die with them.

Between the desire
And the spasm
Between the potency
And the existence
Between the essence
And the descent
Falls the Shadow
For Thine is the Kingdom
. . .

This is the way the world ends
This is the way the world ends
This is the way the world ends
Not with a bang but a whimper.

there is a therory that the sun will extinguish , whenever - you know - and then without this source of heat and light the earth will wither up and die - like a tomato plant, oh and when the sun dies, all the plants will die because without the abundance of light they will not be able to do photosynthesis, and they will not produce oxygen for us to live off - so then we die!!!no it is not judgement day - no such thing, that is something that they catholic church made up to scare the poor, simple peasent folks, back when the church was established..

World will never end it will just keep on growing and growing and new things will replace old things. Just think they say if you were to dig in your garden you will find a roman coin. think about in the next Century when someone digs what will they find. so be assured the world will not die.

the world will end in roughly 2.5 billion years when the sun runs out of hydrogen. at which point, the core of the sun will implode, creating an explosion so vast it will engulf every planet up to Saturn, which unfortunately will include Earth. the sun will be extinguished, all life will die and our solar system will be no more.
