Well this isn't necessarily true, but I would say because they don't know any better. They don't fully understand everything going on around them.

it may be because people with mental health problems suffer a lot more than people who don't. most people don't understand mental health problems. the people who do have mental problems probably have "bigger hearts" because they've suffered a lot in their lives, which can make them more compassionate towards others who are suffering as well.

it also depends on what type of mental illness they have

Good question. I think that it's because of their innocent ways of living life. I believe that mentally ill people or a gift from God. They have a way of bring us all back down to reality. Everyone should be blessed to know someone like this. It could change ones life for the better. Awesome question sweetie.

I think some of us have lived through a certain hell, and are emphathic of others. Maybe more patient. We have to realize that mental illness is not a character "flaw" but an illness.
