... that they're going to convince other people to come around to their way of thinking when they're simultaneously being insulting to the people they're trying to convince?

Here are some examples of questions I've seen that fit this mold:

Why do Christians lie?
Why are liberals so full of hot air?
Why do Christians think that they're better than anyone?
Why do Muslims want to kill Americans?

Does anyone really think they're going to convince people to agree with them while they're being insulting and closed-minded, or is this just an excuse to use their question as a soapbox to spout their own doctrine?

Oh GOOD LORD people, the example questions are NOT my questions. They are examples of questions that I think are ridiculous. So you can stop telling me that not all Christians lie and not all liberals are full of hot air. Read the whole question before you respond.

You hit the nail on the head...

"or is this just an excuse to use their question as a soapbox to spout their own doctrine"

For one: They don't have any tact. They don't know how to say what they want to say in a constructive way. They don't know how to persuade people to their way of thinking.

Two: They are too blunt and don't know how to deal with people or communicate with people effectively. So, they'll let anything fly out of their mouth when trying to get their point across.

Three: You've got people out there who feel they have to be "on one side of the fence or the other", so they don't and can't empathize with other people.

Four: Some people just don't know enough about other religions or other "types of people", so they will say what they THINK and not what they know. No matter how misinformed or uninformed they are.

Five: A lot of people THINK THEY ARE RIGHT.

Six: A lot of people don't THINK - They just talk.

Seven: Man people love to criticize. They have to have a nemesis or something else to point their fingers and howl at.

Eight: Some people are just "haters" no matter what. They love to hate a certain group or system.

Nine: You have ignorant people spreading The Message. They are just "ghetto" about it. They don't care what they say or do because they have an antagonistic personality.

These are just a few of the things I've notice.

They don't realize that you can get a lot further in life by being tactful than by being antagonistic.

Good question. I would guess that I'm full of hot air...since I'm a liberal atheist. Thank you for the sweeping generalizations. You know not ALL christians lie either. Not all Muslims want to kill
Americans. Your question is pretty close minded too. The only place where I have a closed mind is regarding the Abrahamic death cults of christianity, islam and judaism. The rest I enjoy learning about and hearing from. I have personally learned alot from Yahoo Answers.

Just me though.

Some people doesn't care that they ask or say things that will offend & will cause controversy of debate.
I see those of that character as rude, bullying, gossipers & troublemakers.
I choose to ignore and shun pushy guys making remarks as you have listed in your question.
Don't let them lead you in anyway other than the one you choose.

It amazes how these people who say that they have morals fail to ask questions or answer with with intelligence and morality yet won't to force their evolution, intolerance and atheistic filth on this site. They ask questions and answer questions about something that they don't believe? Go figure!

I have found that most people with little or nothing to say like to hear themselves speak. It gives them a since of superiority.

Seriously though the question should be addressed. Christians are coming out with some absolute whoppers. Why do they lie?

Hi - your right, we are wrong. Even though I try to be "cool" about such things I have to admit that I get angry sometimes.

Something for us all to work on.
