My friends boyfriend has straight lifeless one length hair which he has grown to just above his shoulders

He has just recently had it trimmed to remove the split ends and would like to try and get more volume and life back into the hair

my friend has deep conditioned it and changed the shampoo that he uses, She has also blow dryed his hair. But his hair still appear to look pretty lifeless

My friends and her mother has suggested that the only way would be to give him a roller set on large rollers

I normally go over to my friends mother house one evening a week where we roller set each others hair

We have persuaded him to try a set out on his hair for a laugh and have told him that we will wash it out if he does not like it

Do you think that roller setting will sort out the volume problem with his hair

try a volume shampoo first before blow drying his hair

If this does not work I think that you should try to roller set his hair
to see if it will work, but if i was a man I would not like this option

or alternatively speak to the hairstylist that cuts your hair at the salon and ask her what to do with his hair like cutting some layers into it to give some volume and life to it

You could also put some highlights through his hair

But I think that this all sounds far too high maintenance for men who normally just wash their hair and comb it in to place

There are a couple of ways you can get body to lifeless hair. One is in the cut. You're not going to get the right cut by going to Super Cuts or your local barber. A professional hair stylist will know where to cut and add texture to add volume. With the right cut you need the right product. Use a small amount of a greasless pomade (I personally use V05's re-workable putty, it works GREAT!) and apply at the roots to tip. Flat irons, rollers, curling irons and blow dryers also work. Be sure to lock that style in with a strong holding hairspray that doesn't make your hair look so stick (I recommend Beyond Zone found in beauty supply stores).
