The UK isn't a muslim country and muslims should abide by our rules and values. If they want to wear their religous dress they should wear it in their country. We are a christian country and now telling christians its wrong to wear a tiny cross. This is political correctness gone mad.

100% right you are.

it is absolutely obscene that our own countries faith should not be allowed such a small thing as a cross when a Muslim is allowed to wear a full burka and veil. If you come over to this country you abide by our rules and regulations and beliefs. if you don't like it then go back to where you came from. England is a very proud country and should not be put to shame by these people.
i have nothing against Muslims. a couple of my mates are Muslim and we get on well but they respect this country and its beliefs.

if we say they cant where veils in public they they remove there veils. if they don't like it then get out of this country.

WE SHOULD MAKE A STAND. ANYONE WHO AGREES WITH ME EMAIL ME OR ADD ME ON -dnegel2006@hotmail.com
OR IF ANYONE HAS AND OTHER VIEWS ON THE SUBJECT

The last time I looked this was a free country. I am a Christian not a Muslim, but if women want to wear veils that's their choice, although I do think the veil acts as a barrier to communication between the different cultures.
To say this is a Christian country is laughable, people only wave the Christian flag when they think it validates their bigoted views. How many of these Christians even know what it really means to be a Christian?

Doesn't the UK have a policy of religious toleration? Why is a headscarf a violation of a Christian "rules and values". It is an ethnic tradition, not some attempt to indoctrinate Christians into Islam.

The woman who was suspended because she did not follow the dress code by wearing her cross on the inside of her shirt is ridiculous. If she wanted to display her faith, she could have done so in a less obnoxious way, perhaps by following Christian teachings and turning the other cheek.

Just as I would expect an employer to not allow Nazis to display their swastikas, a non-Christian should not have to deal with the open religious views of someone they work with. It is only common courtesy to not discuss personal views that may offend in public.

When did UK become a Christian country? I thought the government was secular! So is breaking the 10 commandments now illegal over there? Wow! This is some wonderful news!

So I guess all the women in UK will now have to follow Paul's orders in the Bible, and either cover thier hair or shave it off now. That will make things much easier for the Muslim women, since they will blend right in to society.

Thanks for the wonderful news!

I'm with the kid who said only the ugly ones. But in addition to that I think relgious expression should not be dictated by the government. It doesn't matter if you think you live in a christain country or not. Afterall, what country is purely christain? I'm sure that by devoting an entire five minutes to doing a search I may find a few that are, but my point is that no country denies citizenship based on your religion that I know of. If they prevent someone from wearing their veil when they are muslim what is next? Prohibiting them from taking time for prayer? I'm christain..I just tried to answer this with an open mind..

The whole UK isnt a Christian country - its a multi-religious country (or in the case of some people a non-religious).

We should allow freedom of religious expression...you dont stop a nun or monk wearing a habit, a sikh wearing a turban, a Jew wearing a star of St David or an atheist from wearing no religious symbol so why stop a Muslim from outwardly expressing their religion.

If you apply this sort of ban to Muslims (or any non-christians) its blatant discrimination, which is illegal in the UK

More to the point muslim women should not be forced to wear the veil by islamic bullies. A woman's beauty is for everyone to see and celebrate. The idea behind the veil is to turn a woman into someone's property. It is a grotesque and repressive custom that is totally alien to the British way of life.

heres my opinion from a british born muslims point of view:

First of all we are living in a country tht gives us freedom to express our religon so yes according to tht law muslim women should be allowed to wear the veil.

However some muslims simply take the piss, yea go on and wear the hijab by all means tht is apart of our religon and wearing it is a good thing, BUT the niqab is not neccessary at all i mean seriously nowhere in the quran does it say u must cover ur face it says u must cover ur HAIR but id does not say u must cover ur FACE. Right now their are so many riots going on over the niqab so seeing as it is not compulsory in islam anyway why not take it off and contribute towards STOPPING the riots? Im a muslim and even i get freaked out when i see women wearing the full niqab, so imagine how the non-muslims must be feeling.

Secondly it also says in the quran tht u MUST follow the laws of the country u are living in it goes on to say if the laws of the country make it impossible for u to follow ur religon (which btw the laws in the UK dont) u must MOVE OUT of tht country, simple as.

So yes women should be allowed to wear the hijab as we have freedom to express ur religon in this country howver the niqab is not neccessary at all.

It is counterproductive to make rules about this. That will only breed resentment. However, I welcome the open discussion of the subject.

My own view is that hiding one's face is a barrier to human relations in this country (UK). Facial expression is an essential part of our communication. I know people talk on the phone, but that is a poor substitute.

I would call on all religious people to consider what message they are giving by wearing overt symbols of their religion. It is important they consider not only their own viewpoint, but that of others who do not share their religion.

I would also relate this issue to the wearing of hoods by young men. Their motives may be different, but the effect is similar. They isolate themselves, and at the same time draw attention to themselves in a negative way.

I would like muslims to feel welcomed in this country, and to be able to move freely amongst people of all other religions and cultures.

I think Muslim women should be allowed to wear the veil as should sikhs be allowed to wear the turban and christians the cross. As much as this is a "Christian" country how much of it is actually run through church? At least with muslim countries they abide by the religion. Maybe its the government to blame not the muslims or any other religion for that matter.
