Because people with higher educations dislike the Bible. I'm sure some higher power exist simply because when the universe was created 13.5 Billions years ago (rough estimate..I wasn't there) something had to do. Yes I understand the concept of dust and other particles rolling around for eons and eons that slowly formed the planets, but when it came down it it, it all came from somewhere. Someone may say "it came from this"..but where did that come from..this arguement can go on and on. But then we have the Bible, about as messed up as the Koran, and whatever it is that Mormons read. In my opinion and many others they are simply books written by hallucinating men who found some really good herbs in the desert. My disbelief in the many "books of the Lord" doesn't change my opinion that a God exists. heck, there maybe dozens of them..the Greeks could have had it right all along.

Higher education cuts through some of the delusional ideas that young people have. I don't mean to say that religion is rooted in delusion, although I do. My point, however, is that much of what causes us to seek the refuge of religious doctrine changes or becomes less controlling in the lives of young people as they develop stronger and more balanced beliefs. Looking at religion from a social, pyschological, or anthropological viewpoint often takes the air out of the balloon for some people.
In terms of politics, this is proven... the longer someone stays in higher education, the more likely they are to become socially liberal (often accepting of the possibility that there is no ONE right religion) and economically conservative.

You people are unbelievably clueless
"Views about the appropriate relationship between scripture and the law vary significantly among demographic groups. Whites overwhelmingly say the people's will should be more influential (65% to 30%), while blacks are almost evenly divided (50% say the Bible, 48% the will of the people). There also is a modest gender gap, with women (37%) more likely than men (29%) to say the Bible should be more important. Additionally, younger people and highly educated people are more likely to say that the will of the people should have greater influence."

That's not actually true, the most intellegent people in the History of mankind have and had a strong belief in God.
Albert Einstein, Mozart, Beethoven, J.S. Bach, Sir Issac Newton,
Sir William Herschel, Galileo Galilei, Louis Agassiz, Geroge Washinton Carver, Stephen Hawkings, Johannes Kepler,
Sir Bernard Shaw, the list goes on and on
The truth is, there is a high level of sprituality that can be achieved through knowledge, The most intellect people in history believe in teh Higher Power. There are many levels of faith and the highest is when you have actual knowledge. In Islam, teh Quran advises us over and over to gain knowledge.
Knowledge is an important tool to gain solid faith. All truth and knowledge leads to God.
Peace and Blessings* Get on the tale wagon :) I am.

Because the university professors for the most part do everything in their power to degrade religious beliefs. And because as the Bible says knowledge puffeth up so they think they are above this sort of thing.
But scripture says that "Pride goeth before a fall and an haughty spirit goeth before destruction."

That has been the exact opposite of my experience (I've been part of the scientific and engineering community for about 20 years). How are you defining educated? My experience with those in the science community has been that their work supports their faith and vice versa. It seems that my colleagues (which probably number in the thousands) are predominantly (better than 70%) a faith filled bunch.

While there are believers of every education level, if there is truth to this I speculate that it has something to do with human pride (meaning that those who are well educated may have a greater temptation to trust in their own intellect and wisdom rather than the wisdom of God). Those who are humble in Spirit are more easily able to accept the Spirit of God, who reveals all life's mysteries to those who seek Him with an earnest heart. This is why true wisdom does not start in the mind, but in the heart.
Jesus said, "I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children. "

Typically it's because they have given over to the world. We are admonished to be in the world not of the world. And typically it's the highly educated people who get the high paying jobs, which means they can buy a lot of "stuff" which leads them into being OF the world instead of IN the world.

Because they are more infatuated with their own supposed intellect than they are able to hear simple truths. Also, it's an ego issue. These people put a great deal of store in what they think they know. It's very hard for them humble themselves, and to be born again in Christ, that is what one has to do.
"Not many noble, not many great, will enter the kingdom of heaven".

Because of their sin of pride. Pride in their ability to educate themselves, make money, etc. But little do they realize without God they would never have had that ability, or life for that matter, to begin with.
