Well, I am thinking to relax my hair. Im goning to do the Japenese Thermal Conditioning, and I sometimes hear stories from girls that have gotten their hair relaxed and their hair fell off, or some girl had to caught off most of her hair because her hair got burned. Is all this true?! ... I REALLY want to relax my hair, but I am having second thoughts because I don't want my hair to fall off, or anything. Will it? HELP ME !!

I hate it because, I straighten my hair 9IT TAKES ME FOREVER BY THE WAY!) and I don't want to have to deal with it or anything. And I ask my friends for advice, and they keep telling me the same thing. Which is they do not think I should do it because they don't want my hair to fall off or get damage. What should I do?!

If anyone has relaxed their hair, for quite some time, can you please let me know what's happening with your hair? My friends tell me that your scalp turns red, and that hair breakage, and loss of hair is what happens when you relax it. Is it true?! I WANT TO RELAX MY HAIR?! WHAT DO I DO? Are those really the side effects?! PLEASE ANSWER!

It depends on the hair relaxer....the LYE ones have a pH range of 11-14 which is basically what they use to clean sink pipes and all that...there are the more commone ones with slightly a little less pH which are good since they dont have LYE. Make sure the stylist does a strand test before she applys it...the reason to see if it works on your hair fine..
Also, she should not leave it on for more than 15 mins regardless of how coarse your hair is...Black people only leave it on for 15 mins...
After she has applied the relaxer and the 15 mins has past, she has too wash your hair with a specific shampoo and conditioner in order to neutralize the pH level.
Then you should not wash your hair for the next 2 days....
Next you must take important care of your hair (relaxed hair becomes dry, so you need moisture)

I have relaxed hair...so that's why I know these things.

I use Redken All Soft Shampoo and Conditioner along with Heavy Cream once a week...you can also use the additional Butter Treatment from Redken....I use the first 3 products and I'm happy with my results...however, when my bottles finish, I will switch to PHYTO's brand, which have specific shampoos for relaxed hair along with great moisturizing conditioners (rinse out, once a week masks, and daily leave in conditioners....you can use phyto 7 or 9 depending on how dry your hair is....) They have lots of other stuff as well....they're stuff is like magic so the money is well worth it...

So if you do relax it, take special care of it and moisturize it...and your hair will not fall off.....

In fact the only time that it will fall off....if it does....is when the stylist is rinsing off the shampoo....not when you get home.

Therefore, as long as your stylist is using the proper techniques and know what she is doing, you should be fine.

Hope I've been a great help.

Before you get into chemicals and such try another alternative. Try keeping your curls. The right cut will have your curls fall in the right place. If you're having problems with frizz, try a heavy leave in conditioner (I personally use a cholesterol treatment if my hair is lookin a lil rough!) There are different styling products you can use to keep your curls sexy too. Also, a spritz bottle mixed with water and sea salt will give your curls a more natural look. If you're using a flat iron, be sure to get a good spray in conditioner as these devices can also leave your hair damaged and dry. Good luck!

The Yuko system (or comparable one) is effective and if the sylist is competent he/she won't do this for you if your hair isn't in good enough condition or is too weak. A competently trained stylist will not burn the hair with the flat iron. It will be permanently straight for about 8 months and your hair will not get curly or puffy. I don't know if the Japanese Thermal Conditioning is the same as the Yuko but if I were you, I'd stick to salons that offer the Yuko system. A good stylist will be honest with you and tell you in their professional opinion whether or not your hair is a good candidate for good results. You can stop in be evaulated if you like. That's free.

There are some things you can do: go to a salon and get them to do it professionally for you, if it falls out then sue them; try to use a sensitive scalp relaxer, tends to have less harsh ingredients; try to style your hair in different ways that won't require the relaxing or use hot oil treatments instead once or twice a week.

I have horible curly nappy hair hair. A relaxer is usually for people with shorter hair. Me having a dumb hair dresser gave me a relaxer. The texture was slightly different (softer) but my hair did start to break. I have the same problems. But honestly, Theirs ways to relax curls with out all those chemicals. Try frizz control, and frizz shampoos and conditioners, Moose also helps keeps your curls. Give me more info and ill help, cuz i nohow it iz.

If you get a relaxant for your hair the only thing it will do is tame it and make it straight. As for the side effects I really cannot make heads or tails of it

ok this is how it go my friend was thinking about getting her hair relaxed. but she then said that she wasnot because her hair would get really frizzy although it would be soft she didnt want it.
your hair will not fall out i promise it will not.
if wat u r try to do is get it soft and less frizzy i suggest that u use herbal essance blow dry your hair than put in redcan frizz control.

GOOD LUCK with the hair

Hi Jasmine-

your best bet versus asking us is to go see a hair specialist..At least you can get some type of compensation if they do mess it up. With you already having second thoughts, that is a good warning to your senses..Sometimes it is best to heed that warning....

Good luck with your choice

I am assuming you have thick curly hair. As well as myself, I would get a roller set, it is what black girls do and it works and it is not that damaging to your hair.
