because it's there, it's cold and he can.
Keep the bathroom door closed and keep a couple of bowls full of water that he can access throughout the day, then he won't need the toilet.

Well the only real answer is that it is a bowl and it has water in it. If the dog id thirsty and wants a drink well then they dont have to wait for you to get it. Keep water in the dogs water bowl and keep the toilet seat down that should help out alot.

Most dogs I know do it because it's cleaner than their water bowls I'm sure.
I don't think I've ever owned a dog that drank from the toilet.Altho I lived with a man who had a dog that did.
Maybe your dog does'nt like ice water.Then again maybe it's having a hard time getting a drink from it's dish.Have you tried an elevated feeder?Dogs don't have to lean down to eat or drink.

Perhaps the better question is why are you peeing in his water bowl? (At least from the dog's perspective!) Seriously, the toilet bowl is a source of frequently changed - and therefore fresher - water. Many dogs show this preference.

Because it's there and most of the time fresher than his water bowl. Hopefully the toilet is a clean one.
