Seriously, if this kids smokin weed and got a messy room, its not the end of the world. Make sure he's doin good in school and stuff, and make him get a job, so if he is gonna smoke, he'll have less time to, and he'll be using his own money not yours. Also, make sure he knows your approachable and willing to talk about it without getting mad at him. Love him, its just part of life what he's going through

the mess.....yeah let him if you can keep the door closed, but the weed....that is against the law. Don't put up with that!!!
My son started with weed and proceeded to other drugs. he has been dead now for four years.

Why let a kid break the law and use a drug???

If the room starts to smell it could be a health hazzard. Them make him clean it up.

Make an agreement with him. Clean the room once a month, and you will just close the door. But....no drugs allowed. Many parents feel that they will defy their kids privacy if they check out and saerch their rooms. I believe in giving them their private space.....but once trust is broken...like with weed or beer or other stuff......the kid has lost trusting privledges and needs to know that at that point mom and dad have the right to search their rooms. You would be amazed how good these kids get at hiding things.

It could be incense. How old is your son? If he's like 16 and weed is the extent of his rebelliousness, I'd probably turn a blind eye. But YOU could get in trouble with Child Services if he got caught somehow. You could play ignorant if he's 18 and something happened, then you wouldn't get into as much trouble. Also, since his room is messy, it could be god knows what kind of smell! Is he generally trustworthy and responsible? Hope I helped at least a little! Good luck!

Don't worry about the messy room. Lots of kids have messy rooms. But, if you suspect he is using marijuana, do something fast. This can only lead to more serious problems. Talk to him. You are the mother and you want what is best for you son. I've been there, I know. You son will thank you for it later on. You need to take control of this situation before it takes control of you son. My daughter nearly died from an ovedose of LSD years ago. So I know what I am talking about. So don't wait. Take action immediately. Good luck to you.

mess is one thing, and that is a very boy thing and you should give him some space to be a teenage boy- but drugs is a whole different story.

firstly, are you sure it is drugs..teenage boys rooms can smell a bit funky sometimes, so do get that odour mixed up with Marijuana and accuse him of something in error. Thats not a good thing.

It's a fine line between allowing him to be himself and if that means he lives in semi squalor for the time being, then so be it. however, if you have any positive proof that he is dabbling with drugs, then you need to do something decisive.

Just a heads up, your link is not sending me to a messy room. It depends what your beliefs are in raising your kids. If he is old enough and has a job and is ready to move out then I would give more space. But if he is 11 yrs old and this is happening put your foot down, marijuana is a "gateway" drug and it could lead down a bad path later in life, or soon.

Ask him to clean his room... give him a time limit, and say that if everything isn't off the floor, organized, and smelling better by then that you will clean it - which means, throwing everything away that is laying on the floor, etc... That always worked for me!!! It also sounds like you need to talk to him about drugs, and see what's going on in his life. Talk to him about the effects of marijuana... let him know you care.

I'm sorry to say that this is really not unusual. Your son is not a bad person he is just being a lad. You should maybe advise him about the marijuana but it's not really that serious in the great scheme of things. Hope this puts your mind at rest.

You dont say how old he is ? but if he is living in the house then i would go in and search the room from the ceiling to the floor, its only their space when they are able to behave in a responsible manner, most if not all teenagers room are in chaos , but i would want to know where and what the smell is and where its coming from . have you spoken to him about it . I would do the search no question about it .
