Wow. That's *really* interesting. It actually does make a lot of sense though, now that it's pointed out to me. As you said, it's well known that Gehrig was an absolute beast, playing through all sorts of injuries, and repeat concussions can certainly inflict awful neurological trauma. I can certainly see the potential correlation there, though. However, interestingly enough, one of the suspected causes for ALS itself is just that -- severe physical trauma caused by things like contact sports and military service, so I'm not sure this study conclusively proves he did NOT have the disease now synonymous with him. It may, however, explain WHY he got it.
