Dogs are rated each year as the most popular. I think Golden Retrivers still hold the top rank. Boxers, my choice are number #8. But I want to know what makes your breed special and the best in your opinion.

I think the Rhodesian Ridgebacks are the most fun.
They were bred by the pharohs to hunt lions.
The don't lose a lot of fur and are full of energy.

To be honest, my favorite has be the Australian Shepherd. To be honest, I can't tell you about Australian Shepherds as a whole, but I can tell you about mine.

He's the sweetest and most loyal dog I have ever met. He has serious problems with blindness and arthritis, but neither are a problem with the general breed. The arthritis problem is there because he was stuck in such a small cage at the petshop when he was a puppy. Or at least that's my theory on it.

It could be because he's blind, but he's always my shadow. He walks right beside me and never walks away unless he's going to visit someone else in the family. All I have to do is say, 'C'mon!' and he'll start following me if he's doing something else-- like sleeping on my bed.

He'll bark a lot at the doorbells on tv though and cars that he doesn't recognize pulling into the yard and he won't stop, but he's still cute. It just means you shouldn't have him in an apartment complex. He's a very good guard dog. The few times I've gotten into a fight with somebody he's been right by my side making sure nothing bad happens to me, even though it's just verbal.

My Australian Shepherd is not only very, very beautiful, but also very good with kids. He's patient, loving, and playful-- but never bites! He just wants a lot of attention, and never really wants to be alone which is very nice for me.

He will beg whenever you have food, but I think that's because all of his life people have been giving him people food. If he had never tasted potato chips I'm sure he'd be fine in that area.

Overall, the Australian Shepherd in my honest belief is the most beautiful and loyal dog there is to be had.

When I was a teenager my parents got a Pembroke Welsh Corgi. We never heard of that breed until my brother bought one and brought it home to show us. My father went from a man that would NEVER HAVE A PET...to I Must have this dog. It still pains me that he isn't alive anymore. My dog listened so well. It is a mid size dog and it has short legs and no tail. I think if you get a corgi you won't be disappointed. They are great with kids. When some one comes to your door they sound like a big mean dog and then you open the door and he would sit there ready to shake your hand.

I married a guy that had a black lab/retriever mix. That dog is also a very loyal dog, but the biggest difference is the amount of food they eat. Not to mention the piles of you know what. Go with your heart.

If you want a dog that is not as hyper as a golden and smaller and does not shed i would say a Havanese. I have both a Golden Retriever and a Havanese. They both great but Golden's are so hyper for the first 2 years and shed.

I adore mutts. Generally they are smarter and calmer. Many pure breeds end up over breeding and in-breeding which causes undesirable traits such as nervousness or being snippy (this means the dog is aggressive in response to discipline). Have a great day.

My favorite dog is an English Mastiff. They are very intelegent and loyal. Mine is only 12 weeks, already potty trained at 9 weeks, knows how to sit on command and shake when asked. Sometimes waves hello when he sees ya! He is brindle. I'm going to get a faun in the future.

Rotts have always been my favorites. Mine died a few years ago (at a ripe old age) and I couldn't bring myself to get another one, so I got Crazy Daisy-The Dingaling Doberman. Man, it's gonna be a long 12-15 years with that dog!! :-)

i think that my favorite breed of dog is probably a golden lab. One because they are for hunting and two because they are very very pretty and make great dogs when there are kids around.
