It is not necessary to cook them first, but you must substantially increase the amount of liquid (sauce) in your dish, so that the noodles can absorb it while the whole dish cooks. And of course, the cooking time for the casserole must be increased, and it should be tightly covered while cooking to keep the steam in. If you don't have a recipe that gives you the specifics, you will need to experiment a little to get it right. (There are special "no-cook" noodles as well---I think they have been dried less than the regular pasta.)
Here is an excellent lasagne recipe that does not call for pre-cooking the noodles

I never cook my lasagna noodles. I just make sure that there is plenty of sauce. Cook it for 45 min to 1 hour and it will be just fine. The reason I don't cook the noodles is because the lasagna stays firmer and doesn't seem as runny as when you cook the noodles. Just personal preference for me. Good Luck.

I buy Barilla lasagna noodles, they are no cook. So you add them uncooked to your recipe and cook for 60 minutes. And if your recipe calls for cooked noodles they have instructions for that on the box. They are great, and I use them all the time, you can't tell the difference!

RE:
Do you HAVE to cook lasagna noodles before you use them in a casserole?
I have seen recipes that don't require you to cook them before, but I don't know what it is that makes you be able to do that. I have also heard of some saying that they NEVER cook them before they use them in any recipe, but I've never done that, and I don't want to ruin the dish....

There are noodles that are now sold in the store that you do not have to cook before making your lasagna. You must look on the box if it does not tell you to use them uncooked then you have the old fashioned king that you have to cook.

If you use the no boil type of noodles you do not have to cook them before layering them in the casserole. If you use the regular type of lasgna noodles, you can parboil them for about a half of the time it tells you on the box!
Good luck

I've tried cooking lasagna noodles in sauce via the oven, but they ended up undercooked. Yuck! Cook them in salted water with a little oil in it (to keep the noodles from sticking together) and then layer them in a cassarol dish with your sauce and cheeses. It will be much, much more tender and tastier!!! God bless!
