I used to carry one round with me ALWAYS as I was told it was compulsory, however, I did not have a car and found it an inconvienience when boarding a bus or going on a date, and, no matter what size, they DO get heavy after a while.

I have now taken to carrying a spare car door with me as it is far more useful, If it is a hot day I can just wind the window down, and vice-versa for a cold or windy day.

That would depend on whether or not you are travelling by car. How many pedestrians do you see carrying a tyre around?? Of course by car though, yes, it is a legal requirement.

Yes it is. Something that I could never understand, a good spare tyre is not necessary for the MOT.

Yes, it is. But not a very good idea.

Trust me, I had the unfortunate experience of taking a spring break trip in a rental that had a blowout on the highway in the middle of the night. Our friend who got the rental failed to check if it had a spare, which it didn't. Thank G-d I was a AAA member.

It is legal to drive without a spare HOWEVER if you have a spare it must be in good, useable condition. Totally bizarre!

there is no law against it as some new cars dont have them [new mini for one ] they carry a tin of puncture repair it a gunk that you put in your tyre when you get a puncture but it does make a mess of tyre and wheel when you get them replaced
