She probably likes the texture of the pillar more. Some cats prefer certain items over carpet. For example, my 12 yr. old cat won't scratch the kitty condos because of the carpeting. She only likes plain wood...luckily she uses the basement wall where no one can see it :)
Try to make her a post using the same material the pillar is made of. Also, cover the pillar in aluminum foil (cats usually hate that stuff!)

You can buy a double-sided sticky tape at PetSmart to put on things you don't want the cat to scratch; the other suggestion of aluminum foil is also good. Scratching is an instinctive behavior so you'll need to give her something to redirect that on. She might like her scratching post more if you rub catnip on it; otherwise, try one made of the same material as your living room pillar. You should address this problem with redirection, because if you punish her for an instinctive behavior it will cause problems between you.

Hi, My answer to that is use a water bottle spraying every time she does that. Cats don't like to be wet, after a while she will learn that is wrong. Does she like cat-nip? my cats goes nuts when that is put on there scatching post which is laid on the floor instead of hanging up
Good luck!!
P.S You are to be in control of your cat ,not your cat in control of what she can scratch.

I had that problem when my cat was a kitten. I got a 2 foot tall board (2x4) wrapped rope around it really tight and put cat nip all over it. It really worked. I have done it for other cats too.

I would put a straw mat on the floor. It doesn't have to be large but that stops my cats scratching other stuff. They love scratching at straw mats.
