Or when travelling have you ever visited somewhere and was surprised you couldn't get a certain type of food?

I live in the Greater Cincinnati (Ohio) area and we have Cincinnati style chili, goetta, and Graeter's Ice Cream.

In Florida I found it odd that they didn't have steak hoagies like ours, and oyster crackers were hard to find and rather expensive.

I live on the TN/MS state line and we have "Slug burgers" which I always thought everyone had, but found out it's only popular in this area. It's like a fried soy burger, we even have a yearly Slugburger Festival.

Montreal. We have all kinds of immigrants so we have foods of the world, together with its French heritage Montreal is one of the world's greatest eating cities except for some reason there is no decent American style K.C. or Memphis or Carolina or any other kind of southern barbeque here (whoever opens one is going to become a gazillionaire!). The nearest decent one is in Burlington, VT., the nearest great one is Redbones located near Boston, MA., which is quite a schlep (when we visit there we get
$ 100 - $ 150 of take-away, the smell of which is so intense and wonderful that it wafts out of the heat-saving stryofoam containers we pack it in; over the last few years we've probably made hundreds of Canada customs officers pang with hunger.)
So if you know of any good barbeque chef in Tennessee or even nearer to you in Kentucky please tell him or her, if he or she would like to get rich, WE WANT YOU AND NEED YOU IN MONTREAL!

Otherwise, heritage specialties and local favourites here include Montreal viande fumee (smoked meat), which is like a NY pastrami but from brisket and much leaner and better, and our bagels, also better than NYs. Maple syrup (90% of the world crop is harvested in Quebec) is used in sauces for or poured on a variety of foods served for dinner, not just with breakfast. Bison and elk steaks are available in most public and supermarkets and served at many restaurants, as are entrecotes et filets chevaliane (horsemeat steaks, absolutely delicious with a garlic and parsley butter). Seafood favorites include north Atlantic lobster (again, 90% is Canadian caught, not American), mussels (all-you-can-eat-mussels restaurants abound here) and oysters (we are now in the middle of "festival des huitres" - oyster festival - season where every supermarket is promoting boxes of them from several different St. Lawrence estuary and gulf harvesting locations and many restaurants featuring a variety of oyster dishes. Quebec is also a centre of fine artisan cheese making in North America including many raw milk cheeses - almost every supermarket sells at least a hundred more of fine cheeses -, and, as might be expected, good French pastries and fruit tarte desserts.

I live in Fresno Ca. and I lived here 16 years. For the first time
my daughter has taken me to a Hawaiian Restaurant. My daughter
is 22 and we moved her when she was 3 years old and I would of
know of something like this. Their food is Unique. The restaurants are all common.

Well, I live in Michigan (Battle Creek), so my cuisine isn't so different from yours.

I was fairly sad that, while I lived in New York, I couldn't find a good pizza joint that didn't sell wings. Now, I can't get good wings! C'est la vie.

It is rather odd that oyster crackers would be so outrageously expensive in Florida.

Well, I don't think it's special in Michigan, but I know that my Aunt lived in Florida and couldn't get Vernor's pop any where. You can't get Spatz bread either other that around the Saginaw/Bay City area that I know of. My b/f brother lives in Grand Rapids and took the bread home because he couldn't get it there. There are Polish restaurants here that just couldn't be found anywhere else as well.

I live in Liverpool UK and the only dish i can think of around here specifically Liverpool is a dish called Scouse which is a kind of meaty stew with potatoe and onion and beef in it! It's gorgeous.

Went to Turkey in the summer and was amazed to find no walkers crisps or cadburys chocolate (same goes for US). It was fully of shitty crisps like Lays and Ruffles.

Monells in Germantown portion of Nashville on 5th ave i think Mad Platter in comparable popular section Cherokee steak domicile(on the lake) close to Gallatin Tn wish those help. rejoice with your trip !!!!!!!

Wisconsin---- Brats, Cheese, Beer. Fifteen years ago it was hard to find Brats in FL.. After WI BADGERs played a bowl game there,,,, you can find brats all over FL>>>

i used to lived in malaysia for 28 years and i miss petai, durian, durian cendol, nasi lemak, asam laksa, prawn noodles, garlic and cheese nan bread, fried keow teow etc etc etc etc etc so much more and in uk although i still can find some of these food but it's never like the taste there......
