I looked up several key words in your dream in a dream dictionary as well. I think you were going about the right approach, but didn't go far enough. Dreams are sort of like puzzles (several pieces), and each symbol or part of a dream can mean something different. Here is my take:
First off...I looked up wedding, which is the main focus of the dream. This is what I found.
To see a wedding in your dream, symbolizes a new beginning or transition in your current life. Dreams involving weddings are often negative and highlight some anxiety or fear. It often refers to feelings of bitterness, sorrow, or death. Alternatively, wedding dreams reflect your issues about commitment and independence.
To dream that you are planning your own wedding to someone you never met, is a metaphor symbolizing the union of your masculine and feminine side. It represents a transitional phase where you are seeking some sort of balance between your aggressive side and emotional side.
I then looked up dog. This is what it said.
To see a dog in your dream, indicates a skill that you have ignored or forgotten, but needs to be activated. Alternatively, dogs may symbolize intuition, loyalty, generosity, protection, and fidelity. Your own values and intentions will enable you to go forward in the world and succeed.
So from my take in things, is that there may be a new change coming in your life soon. Possibly dealing with love or a similar matter. To dream of a groom, represents your desire for a partnership or commitment. This person you may love at the moment may not be ready for a commitment, which is giving you an imbalance between emotions and agression (as seen from the wedding), but with him changing into a dog and the end of your dream, you'll start to see companionship and loyalty in due time. This is also denoted from the champaigne which is also a reflection of companionship. Your mention of a birthday, is that this is all known to many people (as birthdays aren't exactly a secret...everyone seems to know when a friend's birthday is).
All in all, I'd expect something good to happen between someone you possibly like or with someone you love dearly. Hope this shines some light on things.

Well, none of it is too deep, so I can give you my analysis.
It sounds like you are young, not married, and thinking of life. that is the general basis for you dream.
The birthday is simple, and that part doesn't really matter.
The wedding is more complicated. You want to marry, who doesn't? finding someone dreams is also normal. The groom is obvious, because your brain automatically makes sense of things, and those two obviously connect logically in your brain. And don't worry about not recognizing the guy, most women don't. I don't either, I am a guy. The red drink is not at all significant, but the fact that you remember it depends on how you felt at the moment. It was only marginally important.
The golden retriever is also simple, a slight fear, humor in your mind, to get rid of the uneasiness of the situation. Same basic instinct, that in some extreme event, minor things become hilarious.
Dream dicionary?
hah!

Wedding gown in a nice hotel = desire
Find someone = seeking for close relationship.
Guy turns into a golden retriever = disappointment, distrust
red drink =warning
You probably are seeking for close relationship right now. However, you are afraid to give in even though there are opportunities. You have a special desire that not too many people are fit to be your wish. You projected a man turned into a dog could symbolize fear of men, or distrust of men. That reflects your personalities. This is coming from your subconscious mind. You may not know in reality. But this is how you are acting socially.

That could mean a lot of things. My guess is that you're looking for someone who is very loyal, and will be very loyal to you. The wedding factor I actually wouldn't say is the main thing in that dream. I would say your relation to the people (and the dog) is far more important.

In summation, I'd say you will or probably are looking for something passionately. (Hence, looking for the groom-to-be.)However, when you find this item - you may not get what you originally bargained for. (Thus, the groom becoming a slimey dog.)

Sounds to me, that you are still young... you are probably pretty, and you want to meet someone who could be the man of your life. You are hopping for a good husband who would be with you, right by your side and as wild as you are.
Good luck.

Have you seen any doggie kissing movies lately?
Sometimes this is from life experiences or maybe from rejection from someone in your life.
