I don't have a kitten, but I'm learning as much as I can before I get one. But I'm confused about this one. Will it bother the kittens diet or anything? Thank you everyone.

"Kitten" food is just a marketing ploy like "senior", "hairball" food, etc. Mostly those poor foods are put out by the big-time pet food companies who do a lot of advertising.

Any high quality cat food is perfectly appropriate for a kitten. A mother cat does not bring her kittens special "kitten" mice when she weans them.

Do not buy your kitten's food from a grocery store. I have found both Wellness and Natural Balance at my local pet discount store and they are great foods with high quality protein - no by-products or corn. Eagle Pack, Solid Gold, Innova Evo and Chicken Soup for the Cat Lover's Soul are also excellent quality foods. You may have to go to a small, owner-operated pet store to find them though you can get them from petfooddirect.com if you don't mind paying shipping charges.

I have 4 cats
A male and female who are almost two, who mated and had twins. The twins are about 8 months now. Their mother allowed them to nurse even after they started on solid food.

Kittens really should be fed kitten food; however; my kittens wouldn't go near the kitten food I got for them. If it was good enough for Mom & Dad Cat, well . . .the twins weren't having anything else hahaha And Mom & Dad Cat weren't eating the kitten food either (believe me I tried trickery and everything!)

However, Kipper & CuJo (the twins hahaha) are fine, heathy and happy. Perhaps because Priscilla let them nurse longer than I think most do?

OK, long story short, if you are adopting a kitten and there aren't any other pets in the home, you really should feed it kitten food and work up to the adult food. There are different nutrients etc for the period of life your kitten is at.

Much like human baby food!

Good luck and hopefully you adore the kitten that choses you as much as I do my four owners!!!

You can give a kitten the food meant for an adult cat. In fact, if the kitten has diarrhea it's often the preferred method of treatment because the kitten food may be too rich for the kitten to digest. It happens.

However, NEVER give an adult cat kitten food to eat (except a pregnant or nursing cat). It has too high a protein content and can damage an adult cat's kidneys.

Of course, if you can, avoid giving them the supermarket brands of cat food. Iams, Science Diet, etc. are better quality foods and easier for the animals to digest.

kittens don't have strong teeth because they are just coming out. Doesnt really mater if is cat food or kitten food. as longest is not hard food. kiteens need can food o for the first 3 or 4 months. after that . when you see he's teeth are well develop and strong you can give them concentrate or mixed with the can food . I give my cat Both . so he doesnt get bored of always the same thing, the best example is a baby, you don't give to baby solids . because the can eat yet, well same thing with a kitten , is more dificult for them to eat something hard. they need soft food.

A kitten should be fed kitten food, becos of certian nutirients and proteins needed by kittens to grow and develop.

After 18 months, the cat food should be ok
Good Luck

That's all they eat, Catfood for kittens. Don't give them milk it causes diarrhea. A lot of times after you bring the kitten home they get diarrhea, the best solution is Rice Cereal made with water and Baby Food, strained Beef, those are the very small jars. Mix it together and give to the kitten, give only a couple tablespoons at a time. Next thing take it to a vet for a clean bill of health and shots.

Yeah, you have to give a kitten kitten food, because it has a special sort of nutrients necessary to a kitten... It's like saying to someone to give a hamburger to their 2-month old child: it's not good for the kid's diet (which at that stage is baby food) and might lead to health complications.

Kitten food is usually slightly different than older cat food. The pieces are also smaller. It won't hurt a kitten to eat cat food, though.

Kittens digestive system is not developed completely until they are about one year old. Feeding them adult cat food will cause them distress, and the may not develope as well as kittens also need more energy than adult cats.

not really. that is why there are formualted foods for kittens. itgives them the nutrients they need and it keeps them from breaking or cracking there fragile growing teeth. if all else fails, give the kitten canned cat food. (even better-a mix of kitten formula food and canned food.) PS-be nice to your kitten if you ever decide to get one, if you treat them right, they will love you for the rest of there lives. :D
