Fortunately, I'm not really overweight, but I still have a bad addiction to sweets. I love candy, ice cream, soda - just about anything with sugar in it! While I know that use sugar substitutes would help, it doesn't cut out my craving for sugar. My sweet-tooth has been a problem with my young kids as kids have a natural love for sweets and when they see me eating it, of course they ask for some.

Any advice?

Your body gets used to all that sugar coming into it.....so if you can limit yourself for a while so your body will get used to a smaller dose of sugar that will help.

Perhaps if you drink more than one pop a day...try to move it down to one pop...then if you'd like switch over to water...that's a lot more thirst quenching anyway!

If you grab more than one treat..........like candy bar...limit yourself to one sweet a day.

Tell your kids they are smaller and so their limits are smaller.........I give my daughter smaller snack proportions than myself if she asked for any and she's fine....course she's 4 so when she's older who knows if she will still be fine about it.........

I have the same problem... what I have done, and it does help, I got through about a week without any sweets, just a few here and there which was nothing compaired to what I had before... anyhow after the week was over I found myself not wanting the sweets as much as it was just a habit... now I can go awhile without having sweets, and some things are to sweet for me now... good luck

I am struggling with the same problem - I'm not overweight but I'm addicted to sugar. I've taken to chewing gum & popping mints and taking appetite suppressants, which lower your appetite for everything INCLUDING sugar.. and the thought of getting diabetes is certainly motivating.

Talking from my own experience,it is not easy to break the addition and as you said you are so lucky that you are not overweight. You should try quitting by first taking those with low fat and probably less sugar then eat more of real food when you feel like taking candies.like i said it is not easy to stop but if you persist you will stop soon.

Check out the low blood sugar link at www.hufa.org. Check the symptoms page too. It may explain why you crave these substances (carbohydrates).

If you find one, let me know! I find chewing sugarless gum helps me not to eat too many sweets. I don't think you'll ever cure the craving but you can keep it under control. Yum!

Nope, I have the same problem as you. First of all, don't let your kids see you eating it. Sounds mean, that you can eat that stuff behind their backs, but at the same time, you don't want them to have the same problem that you do.
