Oh no, that's awful! I have some names that I like, and I'm never sure if I should tell people so I can claim the names for myself, or keep the names secret so nobody steals them. It's probably best not to have 2 girls with the same name in the family. You and your cousin might not be close now, but you could become closer when you both have kids. I like the name Ryan Scott for a boy. Jayden is a bit trendy right now, so he might be one of 3 or 4 Jaydens in his class. Alliyah and Alyssa can do with almost anything for a middle name. I like the idea of giving my child a middle name of someone important to me. If you want to name her after your husband, both names go nicely with Michelle.

um.....I can understand your frustrate....I don't want to have a name doubled with the people I know either, especially the people I don't really like. Looks like you don't know about the baby's gender yet, maybe it will not be a problem for you if you got a baby boy. By the way, both boy's names are great.
Maybe you can go for Michaella, or Michelle? Actually I don't think Makayla Alliyah is a good name to go.......Michelle Alliyah sounds better

Makayla is a great name - remember, the rest of the world will see her name more than her outside family (cousins, etc.). If it ever came down to it, you can explain how you and your husband had planned to use that name.
While it sounds like you're expecting a girl, for boy names I'm partial to Ryan Scott. It sounds like a regal old fashioned name. I like it! :)

I had the same dilemma - I loved the name Olivia, but my hubby's cousin named her daughter Olivia first. Then I was set on Gabrielle, but my best friend had her daughter 3 days before me and named her - you guessed it - Gabrielle.
To me, a person's name is very special and says a lot about them, so I didn't want my child to have the same name as someone in her immediate circle of family/friends. I also wanted my daughter to have a slightly unique name. Makayla is beautiful, but it's a very common name right now. Remember to consider nicknames - kids can be really cruel. We made a list of names on both sides and took it to the hospital. Once I saw her, the choice was easy.
Personally, I think Jayden is great for a boy or girl. It's a good middle name with Alyssa, too, depending on your last name. We finally chose the name Katerina Eleni (yep, she's a Greek baby). Alyssa was also on our list, but we went with this name b/c it honored my mom and his great-great-grandmom.
Good luck!

My daughter's name is Makayla and I think it is a beautiful name...if that is the name that you and your husband had picked then stick with it or you may not feel good about a name that you have to "settle" for...if you family does not understand then it is their problem. You could spell it differently (Mikayla, etc) and that may help but go with your gut. As far as a boys name I really like Jayden Scott.....good luck.

If you really like Makayla so much, you should just go with that. Since you don't see your cousin as much, it will hardly matter as the children grow older.
If you still need something to Alliyah or Alyssa:
I do like the name Ayanna.

I don't think there's a problem using the same name. Will these kids go to the same school or even spend that much time together. If you like Makayla, go for it.

i like both boy names. i really the jayden scott
go with your first choice for the girl.
in our family we have 2 girls with the same first name, with different middle names. its not to much of problem, they don't live in the same state. if we all get together we just use there first and middle name. you know like your mom would use if you were trouble.
yes family will talk and yea you may catch some crap over it. just let them talk and be happy with the name you have chosen for your little bundle of joy.
