Actually, in ancient times, adultery was a female crime i.e. a married woman who enters into a romantic relationship with a man not her husband in law. Only a woman could commit adultery. In ancient times, a man could atke multiple wives (adultery), engage the services of a prostitute, engage the services of temple-women and not commit adultery.

So....they have never been viewed as the same since adultery is an unsanctioned female act while polygamy is a sanctioned male act.

No, in the most basic definitions of those words. Adultery is sex outside of marriage. Polygamy is Marriage to many women. So long as you're not sleeping with a woman you're not married to, you're not committing adultery.

It depends. Back in OT times, as well as in the late 1800's, God authorized polygamy to certain worthy priesthood holders. Yet, He also said no adultery. So in my opinion, if God authorizes the practice it's not adultery, if it is not authorized by God, then it is.
Remember that it wasn't that David had the many wives and concubines that got him in trouble, but that he took another man's wife and had the man killed, then married the woman without the authorization of God.

I think it is. The religious usually say that it is immoral, but even in the Christian bible there is record of King David having 100 wives, Solomon had 700 wives, and 300 concubines. There is no biblical passage against it, but sincere believers will tell you it's morally wrong. So does that mean that they are saying these people who are key figures in their religion are guilty of an immoral act and therefore sinning? Or do they define it as out right adultery? Either way it would be defined as a sin.

Well, sure, but are you cheating on the second or third wife if she is merely the product of adultery, and thus not a wife at all, but rather a mistress? Adultery is the idea that one is straying from their one and only wife, so multiple wives would not be recognized.

No, polygamy is having more than one wife. Adultery is having sex with someone who is not your spouse.

polygamy is having multiple wifes right? well adultery is more like cheating on your wife for another woman (who in this case isnt your wife). its more like a justification of adultery. lol

Yes, it is. If you are married to one partner, you are not elligible to marry anyone else. Therefore none of the others you "marry" are really your spouse. Therefore having sexual relations with them is adultery.
